“Servant” will return for season 3.
The Apple TV+ series created by Tony Basgallop with M. Night Shyamalan on board as an executive producer has been renewed for a third season prior to season 2 debuting on Jan. 15.
The series follows a Philadelphia couple traumatized by the loss of their child with the mother (played by Lauren Ambrose) struggling with the death so much that she’s given a baby doll as a therapeutic tool that serves as a surrogate for her real child. Eventually, the family goes as far as hiring a nanny named Leanne (played by Nell Tiger Free) to complete the fantasy but then mysterious things begin to happen.
The first season only started to touch on the supernatural forces at work after the nanny arrives to join the family but season 2 is expected to delve even deeper into Leanne after she returns to the brownstone and her true nature is revealed.
“With Leanne, it’s an ongoing reveal,” Basgallop told Variety earlier this year. “We don’t fully understand who she is and where she comes from, and her interpretation of who she is and where she comes from may not necessarily be the correct version.”
“Servant” will return with weekly episodes on Apple TV+ beginning on Jan. 15 with production on the third season expected to begin later in 2021.
