The upcoming “Spider-Man 3” sequel starring Tom Holland will also welcome another Avenger as Doctor Strange himself will make an appearance…
The third “Spider-Man” film starring Tom Holland might be the most ambitious sequel ever made in this franchise.
On the heels of the news that Jamie Foxx would be returning as Electro for the upcoming film directed by Jon Watts, Benedict Cumberbatch has also officially signed onto reprise his role as Doctor Strange in the upcoming sequel.
According to initial reports, Doctor Strange will take on a mentor role for Peter Parker in the wake of Tony Stark’s death as he works with Spider-Man following the shocking revelation of his true identity in the post credits scene in “Spider-Man: Far From Home.”
Cumberbatch making an appearance as Doctor Strange could also help to explain Electro’s return because there have been a lot of hints and teases about Marvel exploring the multiverse with many of their upcoming movies. Of course, Cumberbatch will star in the upcoming sequel “Doctor Strange in The Multiverse of Madness,” which will undoubtedly explore the rift between worlds that has seemingly been opened up after The Avengers traveled through time in order to gather the Infinity Stones to defeat Thanos and bring back half the living universe in “Avengers: Endgame.”
The aspect of the multiverse was already teased in “Spider-Man: Far From Home” but it was later revealed to be a hoax. That will all change with the upcoming films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe including the new “Doctor Strange” sequel.
First things first, however, Doctor Strange will appear in the “Spider-Man 3” sequel, which is expected to begin filming in late October in Atlanta. The third “Spider-Man” film is currently slated for a Dec. 17, 2021 release date but that remains to be seen with the ever changing schedule due to theaters being closed thanks to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
