The first real details about “Squid Game” season 2 have been revealed including characters who will be returning and some hints about what else may be coming…
“Squid Game” is officially returning for season 2 on Netflix and the first details about the upcoming episodes have finally been revealed.
The Korean series was a massive success for the streaming service after first debuting in 2021, while quickly becoming the most watched series in history. Now creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has revealed a few new details about what he’s planning for season 2 after it took him 12 years to get the first season made.
When “Squid Game” ended, there was only one survivor in the deadly game as Gi-hun — the down-on-his-luck gambler and absentee father — claimed the prize worth several million dollars but it came at the expense of so many other players who perished before him.
Now Gi-hun — played by Lee Jung-jae — will return for the second season along with the mysterious Front Man — portrayed by star actor Lee Byung-hun — who oversees the competition itself.
A few more teases included the possible return of Gong Yoo, who portrayed the recruiter for the deadly competition while tempting people with a game of ddakji, which is a traditional Korean game involving players attempting to flip each other’s tiles.
Another teaser revealed that Young-hee’s boyfriend Cheol-su would appear in the upcoming season.
Young-hee was the name of a little girl character that appeared in children’s textbooks in Korea that was then appropriated to make a giant sized version used in the “Red Light, Green Light” game that started off the competition for players. Each player had to run towards a finish line but when Young-hee shouted “red light” they had to stop and stay motionless or snipers would shoot them dead.
In Korean books, Cheol-su was the little boy who shared adventures with Young-hee so you can only imagine how that will turn out for the newest edition of “Squid Game.”
