The full cast for ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’ has been revealed with the start date for production on August 1…
‘Star Wars: Episode IX’ — the final film in the latest ‘Star Wars’ trilogy — will kick off production on August 1 under the direction of J.J. Abrams.
In addition to the production start being revealed on Friday, the full cast list was also released including confirmation that Mark Hamill will return as Luke Skywalker as well as Billy Dee Williams reprising his role as Lando Calrissian.
“Returning cast members include Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, and Billie Lourd. Joining the cast of Episode IX are Naomi Ackie and Richard E. Grant, who will be joined by veteran Star Wars actors Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, and Billy Dee Williams, who will reprise his role as Lando Calrissian.”
Perhaps the most interesting piece of news revealed on Friday, however, was confirmation that ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’ will include Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia.
According to the press release, footage shot of Fisher from ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ will be used to help give Fisher a proper exit for her role as Princess Leia in the latest ‘Star Wars’ film.
“We desperately loved Carrie Fisher,” Abrams said. “Finding a truly satisfying conclusion to the Skywalker saga without her eluded us. We were never going to recast, or use a CG character. With the support and blessing from her daughter, Billie, we have found a way to honor Carrie’s legacy and role as Leia in Episode IX by using unseen footage we shot together in Episode VII.”
John Williams will also return to score the latest ‘Star Wars’ film after he led the way on all of the other eight primary ‘Star Wars’ films as well.
‘Star Wars: Episode IX’ is due out in theaters on December 20, 2019.
