A new “Stranger Things” animated series has been ordered at Netflix as the popular show continues to add new spinoffs ahead of the final season…
“Stranger Things” may be preparing for a fifth and final season but that doesn’t mean there won’t be plenty more to explore in future spinoffs.
The latest is an animated series that’s been ordered at Netflix with “Stranger Things” creator Ross and Matt Duffer serving as executive producers with Eric Robles and Flying Bark handling animation and production on the upcoming show.
“We’ve always dreamed of an animated Stranger Things in the vein of the Saturday morning cartoons that we grew up loving, and to see this dream realized has been absolutely thrilling,” Matt and Ross Duffer said in a statement.
“We couldn’t be more blown away by what Eric Robles and his team have come up with — the scripts and artwork are incredible, and we can’t wait to share more with you! The adventure continues …”
There are no details on what exactly the “Stranger Things” animated series will explore or if any of the original cast members might return for voice roles in the show.
Since announcing that the upcoming fifth season would bring the main “Stranger Things” series to an end, the Duffer brothers have orchestrated a massive expansion of the overall universe, which includes another live-action spinoff as well as a stage show called “Stranger Things: The First Shadow.”
The Duffer brothers are also staying busy with other work at Netflix including an adaptation of the Stephen King and Peter Straub novel “The Talisman” as well as a new live action series based on the “Death Note” anime.
It’s unknown how quickly production might begin on the new “Stranger Things” animated series but obviously Netflix has a lot of faith in the product, especially with the main series coming to an end sooner rather than later. As of now, ‘Stranger Things” season 5 hasn’t officially gone into production but writing on the final season has been underway for several months.
