The first trailer for ‘Stranger Things 3’ has just been released with a look at what’s happening in Hawkins, Indiana during the summer of 1985.
The clip begins with Dustin returning from summer camp and his friends all surprising — and scaring the hell out of him — after he gets home again. Judging by the trailer, it would appear the bulk of this story takes place in the summer rather than the winter in the first two seasons of the popular Netflix series.
As we catch up with all the major characters set to the sounds of The Who’s ‘Baba O’Riley’ — Jonathan and Nancy are together at the Hawkins Post, Chief Hopper is on a date and Billy is the new lifeguard at the local pool — and that’s when we hear Mike proclaim ‘we’re not kids anymore’.
From the look of things, Will is struggling to adapt to his friends all growing older as they enter the teenage years and the days of playing Dungeons and Dragons in Mike’s basement appear to be over.
Later in the trailer we see Eleven enjoying her new friendship with Max and Steve, who now works at an ice cream shop in Starcourt Mall, is still best of buddies with Dustin.
While not much is given away in terms of the story, it definitely looks like the new mayor of Hawkins is determined to return the town to some sense of normalcy after a couple of crazy years as he prepares for a July 4 celebration — and there’s no chance that could go horribly wrong.
In a random series of flashes we then see scenes such as Eleven and Max posing for glamour shots, Steve getting stabbed in the neck with a rather gnarly looking needle and Mike and Eleven sharing a kiss.
It all culminates in the reveal of a new creature that has escaped the Upside Down — the kind of monster that would scare even a Demogorgon.
Take a look at the new trailer with the full season of ‘Stranger Things 3’ dropping on Netflix on July 4.
