In a bit of shocking news, Floriana Lima has stepped down as a series regular on ‘Supergirl’…
Sanvers fans are not going to like this news.
Floriana Lima — who portrayed National City cop Maggie Sawyer during ‘Supergirl’ season 2 — has downgraded her role from a series regular to a recurring spot for season 3.
Lima became a fan favorite during season 2 as her character was involved in a romantic relationship with Alex Danvers (Chyler Leigh). Season 2 actually ended with Alex proposing marriage to her girlfriend Maggie during the final moments of the episode.
Sadly it appears one half of the couple will now be making far fewer appearances during ‘Supergirl’ season 3.
“We adore Floriana and have loved working with her to tell this inspiring story,” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said in a statement. “Although she’s not available to us as a series regular next season, as she’s looking to pursue other opportunities, we’re happy she’ll be returning for multiple episodes in Season 3.”
According to a message Lima posted on Twitter, her original role on ‘Supergirl’ was only supposed to last for one season so now she’ll be returning as a recurring character but won’t be on the show full time.

There’s no word on how many episodes Lima will shoot for ‘Supergirl’ season 3 but it’s hard to imagine her character won’t be missed after becoming such an integral part of the series this past year.
‘Supergirl’ season 3 will pick up production in Vancouver this summer with a debut date this fall on the CW.
