“Supernatural” star Jensen Ackles will re-team with original series creator Eric Kripke on “The Boys” season 3 for Amazon Prime…
“The Boys” has added a familiar face to the cast for season 3.
Jensen Ackles — best known for his role on the long running series “Supernatural” — has been cast in the Amazon Prime series ahead of season 3, which is expected to get into production in early 2021.
“The Boys” showrunner Eric Kripke is very familiar with Ackles because he was the creator behind “Supernatural,” which is preparing to come to an end later this year with the conclusion of the 15th and final season.
As part of “The Boys” season 3, Ackles will portray Soldier Boy, who is known as the original superhero after he fought in World War II and then became a mainstay celebrity for decades after his initial appearance in the spotlight. In the comics, Soldier Boy is a parody of Captain America, except this version is incredibly weak willed and easily frightened.
It’s tough to say how many of those characteristics will be carried over to “The Boys” TV series, which has kept some parts of the source material in tact but altered many others (for the better in most cases).
“When I was a child, I had a crazy, impossible dream — to provide Jensen Ackles with gainful employment,” Kripke said in a statement. “I’m happy to say that dream has come true. Jensen is an amazing actor, an even better person, smells like warm chocolate chip cookies, and I consider him a brother.
“As Soldier Boy, the very first superhero, he’ll bring so much humor, pathos, and danger to the role. I can’t wait to be on set with him again, and bring a bit of ‘Supernatural’ to ‘The Boys.’”
“The Boys” was renewed for season 3 ahead of the season 2 premiere, which will happen on Friday, Sept. 4 on Amazon Prime.
The second season will debut with three brand new episodes and then a new episode each following Friday until the finale airs in October. Season 3 is expected to begin production in Toronto in early 2021 but no air date has been chosen yet.
