“Talk to Me” will get a sequel at A24 with first-time filmmakers Danny and Michael Philippou both returning to the horror franchise…
It turns out “Talk 2 Me” was the perfect title after all.
On Tuesday, A24 officially ordered a sequel to “Talk to Me” — the breakout horror hit from first-time filmmakers Danny and Michael Philippou, who got their start as content creators on YouTube through a viral channel called RackaRacka.
After debuting at the Sundance Film Festival, A24 snapped up “Talk to Me” before releasing the film worldwide back in July. The film earned $10 million on its first weekend, which was the biggest opening for an A24 horror film outside of “Hereditary.”
Now A24 is looking to turn “Talk to Me” into a franchise with a sequel titled “Talk 2 Me” now in the works with the sibling duo returning to direct the feature with Danny Philippou and Bill Hinzman both coming back to write the script just like the first movie.
“Talk to Me” centers around a group of friends who come into possession of a ceramic hand that allows a person holding it to contact the dead and with a simple command, they can even allow the spirits to enter their bodies. Of course this becomes a new viral sensation with teenagers being possessed and their friends filming it for social media — but when things go horribly wrong, they have to confront the evil forces they unknowingly unleashed.
Just after “Talk to Me” opened in theaters, the Philippou brothers told Rewind of the Living Dead that they were absolutely interested in returning for a sequel with Danny already plotting out ideas for a second film.
“Naturally when you’re writing a film, when you like the world and the characters, you just naturally write other scenes,” Danny Philippou said on the podcast. “There was stuff being written. Even when I was writing the first film, I was writing scenes for a second film.”
Now they’ll get the chance to fully flesh out a second film in the series.
The Philippou brothers have been in high demand since first debuting “Talk to Me” with the Australian duo also signing on to develop and direct a new “Street Fighter” film based on the classic video game series.
