It turns out there will be leftovers because “Thanksgiving 2” is happening at Sony with Eli Roth returning to write and direct the sequel due out in 2025…
More bodies will be carved up when “Thanksgiving 2” arrives in theaters in 2025.
Following a successful first few weeks in theaters, writer and director Eli Roth will get to return for another stab at a “Thanksgiving” film with Sony officially ordering the sequel to the breakout horror hit.
The first film was actually in the works for the better part of 16 years after Roth made a fake trailer for his pals Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez for their Grindhouse double feature that was released back in 2007. Fans enjoyed the trailer so much that they started asking Roth to actually make the movie and he finally delivered with his holiday slasher classic that has already doubled its budget at the box office.
“We’re doing a sequel,” Roth announced. “Going back for seconds! ‘Thanksgiving 2’ is a go! Jeff Rendell and I are going to start writing it. We’re going to take a year off so we can really, really write a great script. We want to outdo ourselves, make it better than the first one. It will be released theatrically worldwide, sometime in 2025 probably around Thanksgiving.
“John Carver will kill again! I’m so excited. It’s always been a dream to make a slasher franchise.”
The first “Thanksgiving” film centered around the town of Plymouth in Massachusetts after a terrible Black Friday tragedy leaves several people dead. One year later, a killer — wearing a John Carver mask and dressed like a Pilgrim — starts picking off anybody and everybody involved with that horrific night — and nobody gets an easy death when the blood starts flying.
The film starred Patrick Dempsey, Gina Gershon, Nell Verlaque, Rick Hoffman and Addison Rae but it’s not clear just yet who might be returning for the sequel.
