Matt Reeves’ highly anticipate sequel “The Batman Part II” will have to wait another year for release with film getting pushed back until 2026…
The Dark Knight’s return will have to wait a little longer.
Matt Reeves’ highly anticipated sequel “The Batman Part II” has been pushed back a year with a new release date moving from October 3, 2025 to October 2, 2026.
While the film sequel is moving back a year, the upcoming spinoff series “The Penguin” starring Colin Farrell as the famed Batman villain is still set for release on the Max streaming service later this year.
With “The Batman: Part II” pushed back until 2026, Maggie Gyllenhaal’s upcoming Frankenstein adaptation called “The Bride” will take the slot on Oct. 3, 2025.
Not much is known yet about “The Batman Part II” outside of Robert Pattinson returning to play Batman/Bruce Wayne, although Reeves previously promised that “the whole team” would be back for the sequel so that presumably means actors like Zoe Kravitz, Jeffrey Wright and Andy Serkis will be coming back as well.
There’s no word about the story for “The Batman Part II,” although there’s been plenty of speculation about Barry Keoghan possibly returning to play The Joker after he filmed a small part for “The Batman” that later appeared in a deleted scene. The interaction between Pattinson’s Batman and Keoghan’s Joker currently has over 2.6 million views and many fans hope that the characters will meet again in a future film.
“The Batman Part II’ moving to 2026 also clears the way for James Gunn to launch his new DC film universe with his “Superman” film due out in 2025. While Reeves’ “Batman” films don’t operate in the same universe as Gunn’s movies, separating the two from coming out relatively close to each other will likely help prevent any confusion.
For now, we’ll just have to wait a while until we know more about “The Batman Part II” with the film still more than two years away from release.
