Robert Pattinson will return for “The Batman Part II,” which now has a release date set in 2025 as part of the new “DC Elseworlds” label…
Robert Pattinson and director Matt Reeves will officially return for “The Batman Part II,” which is slated for release on October 3, 2025. The film will serve as a direct sequel to “The Batman” — the critically acclaimed film that grossed over $770 million at the box office in 2022.
The release date for the film was revealed on Tuesday along with a full slate of new projects headed to the DCU from co-CEO’s James Gunn and Peter Safran.
As part of the announcement, it was confirmed that “The Batman” films and TV series created by Reeves will exist outside of the continuity and shared universe at the new DCU. Gunn stated that “The Batman Part II” as well as Todd Phillips’ upcoming sequel “Joker: Folie à Deux,” starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga, will fall under a new banner called “DC Elseworlds.”
Those films, TV series and animation projects, which includes “Teen Titans Go” as well as a separate “Superman” film being developed by J.J. Abrams and Ta-Nehisi Coates, will still move forward but they won’t be connected at all to the larger DCU being constructed by Gunn and Safran.
Prior to the news being announced, Reeves had previously said that he was meeting with Gunn and Safran to ensure storylines developed for his “Batman” universe wouldn’t clash with plans for the larger DCU.
As part of the new DCU films, there will be a new Batman cast for “The Brave and the Bold” movie but that will once again not have anything to do with Reeves’ projects where Pattinson stars as the Dark Knight.
While the release date for “The Batman Part II” was revealed, there were no further details unveiled so it’s unclear where the story will go following the first film. With a 2025 release date, however, it’s likely that “The Batman Part II” will get into production next year so more information will likely be released in the near future.
