Another new “Star Wars” live-action series is headed to Disney+ with “The Book of Boba Fett” exploring that character as the new crime boss on Tatooine…
Ever since Boba Fett had a less than gracious exit during “Return of the Jedi,” fans of the infamous bounty hunter have been clamoring for a more satisfying story for the character.
Now all those Boba Fett fans can celebrate with a new series focused on the character coming to Disney+ in December 2021.
During the post-credits scene in “The Mandalorian” season 2 finale, Boba Fett and his new running mate Fennec Shand arrived at Jabba the Hutt’s palace, which is where the bounty hunter seemingly met his demise after being launched off a sail barge into the Pit of Carkoon where he would supposedly be devoured by the Mighty Sarlaac for a thousand years.
Somehow, Boba Fett escaped and years later he reclaimed his armor after tracking down Mando, who had taken it from a local marshal named Cobb Vanth after he took ownership from some Jawas. After helping Mando rescue his little pal Grogu from the remnants of the Galactic Empire, Boba Fett and Fennec Shand returned to Tatooine.
It’s there they found Jabba’s former No. 2 henchman Bib Fortuna left in charge but Boba Fett and Fennec quickly dispatch him and the post-credits scene ended with the bounty hunter sitting on the throne that once belonged to the Hutts.
A title card then revealed the “The Book of Boba Fett” coming in December 2021.

There was some confusion in the aftermath of that big reveal whether “The Book of Boba Fett” was a new series or perhaps the main storyline for “The Mandalorian” season 3.
“The Mandalorian” creator Jon Favreau cleared that up on Monday announcing “The Book of Boba Fett” is set as a stand alone series on Disney+ that will run concurrently with the timeline in “The Mandalorian.”
There are several more series on the way from the “Star Wars” universe that will also take place in that same timeline including “Ahsoka” and “Rangers of the New Republic.” Based on the report, “The Book of Boba Fett” will join those series in operating during the same timeline and eventually all of those shows will collide in some kind of major event similar to “The Avengers” in the Marvel Cinematic Universe or “The Defenders,” which was done with the Marvel series on Netflix.
Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni — the same creative team behind “The Mandalorian — will oversee “The Book of Boba Fett” as well as Robert Rodriguez (Desperado, From Dusk Till Dawn), who joins the show as an executive producer. Based on everything that’s happening with “Star Wars” in terms of the upcoming series, Favreau and Filoni are leading the charge and directing the next phase of these stories set in a galaxy far, far away.
“The Book of Boba Fett” is slated to debut on Disney+ in December 2021.
