A new “hero” is joining “The Boys” season 2 and she’s going to end up as a thorn in the side of Homelander but probably for all the wrong reasons…
“The Boys” season 2 will land on Amazon Prime later this year and a new superpowered “hero” will be joining the cast.
“You’re the Worst” star Aya Cash will be suiting up as Stormfront — a character comic book readers should be familiar with, although this will be a gender swap from the male version in the source material.
In the comics, Stormfront is an amalgam of characters like Shazam and Thor, who can fly at super sonic speed, has electric super powers and can somewhat control the weather. The character is also part of another team called “Payback,” which are seen as the second most popular superhero team behind The Seven. Originally, Stormfront was the first super soldier designed by the Third Reich and the character carries those Nazi roots into the work he does as a hero as well.
It’s not clear how much of Stormfront’s origin story will translate into “The Boys” for season 2 but the character is viewed as one of the only superpowered beings in the same league as Homelander, which immediately puts them at odds.
“I think Stormfront is like a nuclear bomb that goes off in the Seven,” Cash told EW when talking about the character. “Maybe nuclear bomb isn’t the right word. We’re in Chernobyl. There you go. It’s a Chernobyl thing.” Meaning, if everything feels at ease, it’s just ’cause we’re in the eye of the… well, you know.
“I think she’s here to blow up Vought. She’s here to try to get Vought back to the original idea behind creating superheroes… And she can be quite the feminist. There’s a lot of, I wouldn’t say misdirect, but she also is a very empowered woman.”
If there was one recurring theme throughout the first season of “The Boys” it’s that just about everybody feared Homelander and Stormfront’s arrival will challenge his alpha status amongst the supers.
“[He’s] used to everyone being scared of him. She matches him,” Cash said. “That’s not to say she doesn’t understand his power and tiptoe around it sometimes, but she’s also willing to challenge him. Ultimately, I think the dynamic between the two is terrifying and will change who Homelander is.”
Filming on “The Boys” season 2 has already wrapped up in Toronto with the show currently in post production. There’s no word when season 2 will debut on Amazon Prime but it will likely arrive this summer much like season 1 last year.
Stay tuned for more news on “The Boys” season 2 — including a full length trailer — in the weeks to come.
