A blast from the past will show up during “The Boys” season 2 as Shawn Ashmore joins the cast to play Lamplighter, a notorious former member of The Seven…
Shawn Ashmore — best known for his role as Iceman in several “X-Men” movies — will be returning to the superhero genre but this time in a much different role as he joins the cast of “The Boys” season 2.
Ashmore will play Lamplighter, a former member of The Seven who was frequently referenced in the first season of the show but never made an appearance until now. The veteran actor announced the news on social media.
“You didn’t think I was done with the Super Hero game did ya?!” Ashmore wrote on Twitter. “Meet LAMPLIGHTER! Former member of the 7 and a man with secrets to tell! I couldn’t be more excited to be apart of season two of “THE BOYS” which begins airing Friday sept 4Th!”

Here’s what we know about Lamplighter from the first season of “The Boys”:
Lamplighter was one of the original members of The Seven but his retirement from the superhero game is what opened up a spot in the group for Starlight to join. Now it seems highly unlikely that Lamplighter just decided to walk away so the real reason he left The Seven could play a pivotal role in the upcoming season. It was also revealed in the season finale that Grace Mallory, the CIA operative who helped found the Boys alongside Billy Butcher, closed down the group after Lamplighter murdered her grandchildren. As she says in a brief reunion with Butcher in the finale, Lamplighter burned them up so badly that not even their teeth remained when he was finished with them.
In the original comics, Lamplighter carried a staff that allowed him to possess the power of pyrokinesis, which meant he could pull from any fiery source and harness the ability to torch just about anything (or anyone) in his path. Based on what Mallory revealed about him, Lamplighter’s powers appear to be much the same in the TV series.
It’s unknown when exactly Lamplighter will appear but it’s hard to imagine he won’t make some kind of impact this season even if he only shows up during some kind of flashback scene.
“The Boys” season 2 will debut on Amazon Prime on Friday, Sept. 4 with the first three episodes and then each following Friday a new episode will drop until the finale in October. Stay tuned to Nerdcore Movement for full recaps of the entire season when “The Boys” returns in September.
