‘The Flash’ will be missing a key piece of the cast for part of season 5 with actor Jesse L. Martin taking a break due to medical reasons….
Detective Joe West will be absent for at least part of ‘The Flash’ season 5.
On Wednesday it was announced that actor Jesse L. Martin, who portrays Iris West’s father on the popular CW series, would be taking an extended leave of absence due to medical reasons.
Martin reportedly injured his back during the show’s hiatus this summer and he’s been hampered by the injury during the early part of filming for season 5. Martin’s injury is why he’s largely been seen sitting in almost every scene he’s filmed thus far in season 5 of ‘The Flash’.
“Jesse Martin is taking a medical leave of absence from The Flash. We wish him a full and speedy recovery and look forward to his return as Detective Joe West,” The CW said in a statement to EW.
There’s no word at this time how long Martin will be absent from ‘The Flash’ but it’s expected to be significant enough that the show will be forced to address his exit for a period of time.
It’s unclear how many episodes Martin has already filmed but it seems that ‘The Flash’ will put his exit as part of the story for season 5 until Martin can make his return.
‘The Flash’ airs every Tuesday night at 8 p.m. ET on the CW.
