“The Flash” has lost two of the original cast members with Tom Cavanagh and Carlos Valdes both exiting the series after season 7…
“The Flash” will lose two of the show’s original members at the end of season 7.
Tom Cavanagh — who originally played Harrison Wells before then portraying different incarnations of that same character across the multiverse — and Carlos Valdes, who plays STAR Labs tech wizard Cisco Ramon, will both exit as series regulars ahead of season 8.
Valdes will close out his run with “The Flash” with an appearance in the season 7 finale airing later this year while Cavanagh actually already wrapped up his time on the show after actually planning to say goodbye at the end of season 6. Unfortunately, the coronavirus pandemic shortened filming for season 6, which mean the storylines happening in those final few episodes had to be extended into season 7.
Cavanagh ended up sticking around to help wrap up those stories but his final appearance on “The Flash” already happened back in the third episode of the season.
While both actors are leaving the series, it’s possible that Cavanagh and Valdes could return in guest appearances in the future.
“Tom and Carlos have been an integral part of our show for seven seasons, and will be greatly missed,” The Flash executive producer/showrunner Eric Wallace said in a statement to Deadline. “Both are incredible talents who created beloved characters that fans and audiences around the world have come to love. Which is why we are happily keeping the door open for return appearances.”
“The Flash” has already been renewed for season 8 on The CW with series star Grant Gustin already locked in for his return. Fellow original castmates Candice Patton and Daniel Panabaker are reportedly in negotiations right now for a return to season 8 and beyond.
Typical television contracts start out with a seven season commitment and anything beyond that requires a renegotiation.
“The Flash” currently airs at 8 p.m. ET on Tuesday nights on the CW.
