“The Mandalorian” will head to the big screen with a new film ordered at Lucasfilm along with news that “Ahsoka” season 2 is officially in the works…
The “Star Wars” universe will expand with a new film and a sophomore season of a hit series.
“The Mandalorian & Grogu” has officially been ordered as a movie with Jon Favreau set to direct a feature film adaptation of the popular Disney+ series that has already aired for three seasons. Favreau led the charge to bring “The Mandalorian” to life on Disney+ and now he’ll sit in the director’s seat for a full film set in the same universe.
“I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created,” Favreau said about the project. “The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting.”
Production on “The Mandalorian & Grogu” will start in 2024, although there’s no word yet on when the film might land in theaters. The latest film from Favreau is expected to lead several new movies set in the “Star Wars” universe with additional projects coming from Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, James Mangold, and Dave Filoni.
In addition to the news about “The Mandalorian & Grogu,” Lucasfilm also announced that Filoni has officially started development on “Ahsoka” season 2 for Disney+.
The first season starring Rosario Dawson, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Lars Mikkelsen and Eman Esfandi ended earlier this year with no word on whether or not the show would return for a second season. The show closed on a sizable cliffhanger so many predicted the story would either continue in “Ahsoka” season 2 or the film that Filoni is developing.
Now it appears “Ahsoka” season 2 will happen with Filoni actively working on plans for the next installment in the series.
