‘The OA’ was cancelled after two seasons on Netflix and now any hope for a revival for the show has been snuffed out…
‘The OA’ will not return in any form.
The science-fiction drama was cancelled after two seasons on Netflix but there was still some hope that perhaps a deal could be struck that would allow co-creators Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij to wrap up their series. Unfortunately, the co-creators had planned on five seasons of ‘The OA’ to finish the story properly and a two-hour movie just wouldn’t have allowed them to finish the series in a satisfying way.
With no deal reached, Netflix officially scrapped any future plans for ‘The OA’ and because they were the producers on the project, another studio won’t be able to swoop in and offer the show new life on another network.
Marling took to Instagram to thank the dedicated fans of ‘The OA” who had an outcry of anger and frustration after the series was initially cancelled by Netflix a few weeks ago.
“We’re humbled, to be honest floored, by the outpouring of support for The OA,” Marling wrote. “Your words and images move us deeply. Not because the show must continue, but because for some people its unexpected cancelation begs larger questions about the role of storytelling and its fate inside late capitalism’s push toward consolidation and economies of scale.”
Marling went onto say that ‘The OA’ will live on in the hearts of the fans and they will now be responsible to carry on the story in their own imaginations because it belongs to them now.
