Get ready for the return of ‘The Walking Dead’ with this guide including trailers, recaps and everything you need to know for Sunday’s episode…
‘The Walking Dead’ will return for the second half of season 8 on Sunday night with the culmination of the cliffhanger that ended with the revelation that Carl Grimes had been bitten while Alexandria fell down around the survivors.
After believing they had trapped Negan and the Saviors for good, Rick and the rest of the communities felt the brunt of his payback after the charismatic barbed-wire baseball bat wielding leader got free and set out to enact retribution on anyone and everyone who went against him.
Alexandria burned, King Ezekiel was taken hostage and Maggie watched two of her people get killed as a warning to submit to Negan or things would only get worse from here. Now as the second half of ‘The Walking Dead’ season 8 kicks off Sunday night here are a few things to help get you ready.
First things first, let’s go back to the last episode of ‘The Walking Dead’ when it was revealed that Carl Grimes had been bitten when he went back to save Siddiq and brought him to Alexandria. Now Carl has to let his father know that he’s not long for this world while reminding him not to lose sight of the bigger picture during this ongoing war with Negan.

Now sadly we know that Carl is going to die but he will still appear in the mid-season debut, which will definitely be a heartbreaking goodbye for the character who has been around since the very beginning of the show. Actor Chandler Riggs will also be appearing on ‘Talking Dead’ after the debut episode on Sunday night. Check out this tribute video made for Carl’s time on ‘The Walking Dead’.
Now we know the second half of ‘The Walking Dead’ will focus primarily on the end of the war between Rick and the survivors while taking on Negan and his Saviors. The ‘All Out War’ story from the original comic books definitely got bloody and we probably haven’t seen the last shocking casualty before this season is wrapped up. That being said, these final eight episodes will likely be a non-stop, pulse pounding affair.
We also know that Morgan (played by Lennie James) will be leaving ‘The Walking Dead’ sometime during these eight episodes as he crosses over to a full time role on ‘Fear the Walking Dead’. There’s no clue yet on how he will leave the main series but his role in the war will be interesting to watch unfold.
One more thing to keep an eye on during these second set of episodes — as we reported earlier this week, Lauren Cohan (who plays Maggie Green) has no contract for ‘The Walking Dead’ season nine. Now that doesn’t mean that she’s going to die this season or even not return in a full time capacity once these eight episodes wrap up, but Cohan has already accepted a role on an upcoming pilot for ABC that certainly turns up the pressure on AMC to find a way to get a deal done. Considering the loss of Carl this season, not having Maggie return would be a massive blow to the series.
