“The Walking Dead” has added a major comic book character to the cast for the final season as Michael James Shaw joins the show as Mercer…
The final season of “The Walking Dead” has just added a famed comic book character to the cast.
Michael James Shaw — best known for his work on the series “Limitless” as well as playing Papa Midnite on “Constantine” — has been cast in the role of Mercer as season 11 of the long running AMC series gets into production.
Fans of “The Walking Dead” comic book will definitely recognize that name after Mercer played a major role in the series all the way up to the final issues.
In the comics, Mercer is the head of the military at the Commonwealth — a massive, sprawling community with more than 50,000 people surviving the zombie apocalypse. A former Marine, Mercer is comfortable in his leadership role but he also serves as the head of security for Pamela Milton, who leads the Commonwealth, as well as her son Sebastian, who he often comes in conflict with while protecting him.
Mercer also becomes romantically involved with Juanita Sanchez aka “The Princess,” who just recently joined “The Walking Dead” TV series as well.
Obviously many of the characters from the comics have undergone dramatic changes on “The Walking Dead” TV series so it’s unknown what role Mercer will play in the show but now there’s an actor cast to play him.
The final season of “The Walking Dead” just recently got into production in Georgia with plans for the series to debut later this year. The supersized season will be split into two separate parts with the first half airing in late 2021 and early 2022 and then the second half debuting sometime in the latter part of 2022.
“The Walking Dead” is currently airing six bonus episodes attached to season 10 while awaiting for season 11 to debut later this year.
