Jeffrey Dean Morgan will have his real life wife Hilarie Burton acting opposite him when “The Walking Dead” returns with bonus episodes for season 10…
Lucille is coming to “The Walking Dead.”
Hilarie Burton — best known for past roles in series such as “One Tree Hill,” “White Collar” and “Lethal Weapon” — has been cast to play Negan’s wife in the upcoming bonus episodes for “The Walking Dead” season 10.
Of course, Burton is also the real life wife to Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who portrays Negan on the long running AMC series. She expressed her excitement about joining “The Walking Dead” on Twitter after the announcement was first made.
Been pretty hard to keep this a secret. ????
But I love working with @JDMorgan . I love watching him become #Negan and take on that swagger. And I love the @TheWalkingDead family. They’ve been a part of our family for ages and I’m so grateful for their kindness. Xoxo #hereslucille https://t.co/9tRh7NB8WY— Hilarie Burton Morgan (@HilarieBurton) November 3, 2020
In the TV series, Negan reveals that his barbed-wire wrapped baseball bat took on the name Lucille after his wife died prior to the zombie apocalypse. Before he became the sociopathic leader of The Saviors, Negan was a gym teacher and a married man but eventually he stayed from his wife while carrying on an affair outside their marriage. Sadly, Lucille later died of pancreatic cancer and her death along with his own infidelity haunted Negan for years to come.
Obviously as “The Walking Dead” returns with several extra episodes set during the time period in season 10, Negan will have some kind of flashback episode where we will meet the real Lucille during their marriage. It’s entirely possible an entire episode could be dedicated to Negan’s origin story, which would be an interesting twist for the character who has largely been redeemed in recent seasons.
“The Walking Dead” season 10 will feature an additional six episodes that are expected to debut on AMC in 2021 including Burton’s appearance as Negan’s wife Lucille.
Meanwhile, filming on “The Walking Dead” season 11 — the final season of the show — is also expected to begin soon with hopes to debut those episodes later in 2021.
