Another spinoff in “The Walking Dead” universe has been ordered with Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan leading the way in “Isle of the Dead”…
“The Walking Dead” has another spinoff coming after the main series ends later this year.
The latest series will star Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan as they reprise their roles as Maggie and Negan in a show currently titled “Isle of the Dead.” The show has already been ordered to series with the first season consisting of six episodes.
“Isle of the Dead” will bring Maggie and Negan to a post-apocalyptic Manhattan long cutoff from the mainland. The crumbling city is filled with the dead and denizens who have made New York City their own world full of anarchy, danger, beauty, and terror.
Eli Jorne, who has been a writer and producer on “The Walking Dead” for several seasons, will serve as the showrunner for the new series with “The Walking Dead” chief content officer Scott M. Gimple overseeing the development of the show.
“Eli has created a chaotic, beautiful, grimy madhouse of the dead for Negan, Maggie, and fans of the show eager to discover an unseen and insane world of the TWD Universe,” Gimple said.
“Lauren and Jeffrey have always been fantastic collaborators and now, we bring that collaboration to the next level with a series that will take these characters to their limits with the world — and each other. All of us are thrilled to take you on an all new, all different TWD epic for the ages.”
It’s an interesting pairing with Maggie and Negan stuck together on an adventure considering the volatile relationship they’ve shared over the years. Negan was famously introduced to “The Walking Dead” after capturing Rick Grimes and his group of survivors before beating Maggie’s husband Glenn to death with his barbed-wire wrapped baseball bat.
“The Walking Dead” has now moved several years in the future but the animosity between the characters has never disappeared with Negan most recently striking out on his own because he was convinced that Maggie would eventually get around to avenging Glenn’s death.
Now it appears Maggie and Negan will be taking a trip to New York City together for this new spinoff expected to debut on AMC in 2023.
“Maggie is very close to my heart and I’m excited to continue her journey against the iconic backdrop of New York City, alongside my friend and collaborator, Jeffrey Dean Morgan,” Cohan said. “Eli Jorné has created something incredibly special and I cannot wait for the fans to see what we have in store for Maggie and Negan.”
This is just the latest in a long line of spinoffs set in “The Walking Dead” universe with the main series currently in the middle of the final season.
In addition to “Isle of the Dead” with Maggie and Negan, there’s also another spinoff coming that will team Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride together as Daryl and Carol while a third series called “Tales of the Walking Dead” will serve as an anthology with each episode telling a separate story set in “The Walking Dead” universe.
