A new season of “True Detective” is on the way with Jodie Foster starring alongside boxer turned actor Kali Reis in the latest installment in the anthology series…
A new season of “True Detective” has officially been ordered at HBO.
“True Detective: Night Country” will star Academy Award winner Jodie Foster in the lead role alongside boxer turned actor Kali Reis with Issa Lopez serving as showrunner for the series. Plot details for the upcoming season below, per HBO:
“When the long winter night falls in Ennis, Alaska, the six men that operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station vanish without a trace. To solve the case, Detectives Liz Danvers (Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Reis) will have to confront the darkness they carry in themselves, and dig into the haunted truths that lie buried under the eternal ice.”
This will be the first installment of “True Detective” without series creator Nic Pizzolatto on board after he split with HBO following the conclusion of his deal with the network. In steps Lopez, who received rave reviews for her work on the horror film “Tigers Are Not Afraid.”
“We are tremendously excited to return to the ‘True Detective’ franchise and to be working with the multi-talented Issa López, whose singular vision for her ‘Night Country’ installment will be beautifully realized with Jodie Foster and Kali Reis in the starring roles.” HBO executive vice president Francesca Orsi said in a statement.
Development on “True Detective” season 4 started quite some time ago with Foster signing onto the project more recently, which all but guaranteed the show would get picked up to series by HBO.
Foster, who is a four-time Academy Award nominee and two-time winner for Best Actress, will be appearing in her first major television role during her legendary career. While she has appeared in random episodes on TV in the past, Foster has never had a starring role on any series until now.
Meanwhile, Reis will also be getting her first major starring role on TV after she was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for her role in the drama film “Catch the Fair One.” In addition to acting, Reis is best known for her boxing career where she’s amassed a 19-7-1 record with multiple championship titles on her resume as well.
Production on “True Detective: Night Country” will take place in Iceland with filming expected to begin soon. There’s no word yet on when the season might debut on HBO.
