“Tulsa King” will return for season 2 after the Sylvester Stallone led series was officially renewed by Paramount on Wednesday.
The series stars Stallone in the lead role as he plays character Dwight “The General” Manfredi, a mafia capo who is released from prison after spending 25 years behind bars, gets exiled to Tulsa, Oklahoma where he’s ordered to start a new regime and expand the family’s business endeavors in a new territory.
The debut episode, which initially aired on the Paramount Network following the “Yellowstone” season 5 premiere, scored 3.7 million viewers. That number beat out other debuting series in 2022 including HBO’s “House of the Dragon” and FX’s series “The Old Man.”
“Tulsa King” comes from “Yellowstone” creator Taylor Sheridan as well as executive producer and showrunner Terence Winter — who previously worked on “The Sopranos,” “Boardwalk Empire” and “The Wolf of Wall Street.”
“Tulsa King scored as the #1 new series of the year, topping all others including the Game of Thrones sequel House of the Dragon, with its preview on Paramount Network, and on Paramount+, it shattered records, driving us to our biggest new sign-up day in history – which is why we instantly greenlit season two,” Chris McCarthy, President/CEO, Paramount Media Networks & MTV Entertainment Studios, said in a statement
“Tulsa King together with Mayor of Kingstown, 1883 and the upcoming 1923, undeniably confirm the success of our strategy to franchise Yellowstone and use it to supercharge streaming growth – none of which would be possible without the creative mastermind of Taylor Sheridan.”
Sheridan has created quite an empire at Paramount after “Yellowstone” became the highest rated series on cable with the show continuing to score monster ratings week to week during the fifth season currently airing on the Paramount Network.
