A full length trailer for “Dexter: New Blood” has arrived along with some key details about the series, which will debut in November on Showtime…
A deeper look at the “Dexter” revival has arrived along with an official title for the series — “Dexter: New Blood”
The show will debut on Showtime on Sunday night, November 7 at 9 p.m. ET and a new trailer dropped on Sunday as part of the show’s special San Diego Comic Con panel.
As revealed during the panel as well as the trailer, “Dexter: New Blood” picks up 10 years after the events of the original series ended with Dexter now living under an assumed name “Jim Lindsay” — a nod to original “Dexter” writer Jeff Lindsay — and he’s running a gun shop in the fictional town of Iron Lake, New York.
The trailer doesn’t give away too much other than the fact that Dexter Morgan is still very much trying to subdue his dark passenger while attempting not to give into his nightly bloodlust to kill again. That may be more difficult that he imagined after it looks like some bad things start happening around his new hometown while also involving his new girlfriend, who just so happens to be the chief of police.
The 10-episode revival will reunite “Dexter” star Michael C. Hall with original series creator Clyde Phillips, who is returning for the first time after leaving the show following a critically acclaimed season 4.
Much has been said about the much maligned ending of “Dexter” back in season 8 in 2013 and that was a major reason why Hall and Phillips both decided to return to the character with the revival series.
“Yeah, I think the ending was mystifying at best to people,” Hall said during the Comic Con panel. “Confounding, exasperating, frustrating, and on down the line of, you know, negative adjectives.
“And I think this is a show that is very important to all of us, and the chance to revisit it and maybe, in the process, redefine the sense of the show’s ending, the sense of the show’s legacy more broadly, was certainly a part of our motivation. No doubt.”
While “Dexter: New Blood” will introduce a lot of new characters including Clancy Brown playing the main antagonist opposite Hall, there will be some returning cast members coming back as well.
Jennifer Carpenter, who played Dexter’s sister Deb, was previously confirmed to return even through her character died in the series finale and John Lithgow will reprise his role as the infamous Trinity Killer in at least a cameo during the season after he won both an Emmy and a Golden Globe for that role back in season 4.
Phillips wouldn’t confirm anybody by name when addressing the cast members from “Dexter” returning for “Dexter: New Blood” but he promised there would be a lot of surprises.
“I will say that there will be some returning cast members from the original series that will make some people’s brains explode,” Phillips teased.
