The new full length trailer for “Dune” has arrived with a much deeper look at the upcoming space epic from director Denis Villeneuve….
“My planet Arrakis is so beautiful when the sun is low. Rolling over the sands, you can spice in the air. The outsiders ravage our lands in front of our eyes. Their cruelty to my people is all I’ve known. What’s to become of our world…”
Those are the words spoken by Chani — as played by Zendaya — in the opening moments in the new full length trailer for “Dune,” which opens later this year on October 22.
The epic adaptation of the Frank Herbert novel from director Denis Villenueve has been sitting on a shelf for over a year after the global pandemic forced the release date to get pushed back until 2021 but now the film will finally arrive in theaters and HBO Max later this year.
The new trailer teases the brewing war after Padishah Emperor Shaddam IV orders House Atreides to take over responsibility for the planet Arrakis where a valuable resource called melange or “the spice” is mined. In reality, the Emperor sees House Atreides led by the honorable Duke Leto (Oscar Isaac) as a threat to his rule and so he teams up with the evil House Harkonnen to sabotage House Atreides on the planet. Sadly, Duke Leto knows his family is being set up for something terrible to happen to them but he can’t refuse the Emperor’s orders so he’s forced to take his family to the harsh and inhospitable planet.
Here’s the official synopsis for “Dune” from Warner Bros:
“A mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey, “Dune” tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence—a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential—only those who can conquer their fear will survive.”
The new trailer gives a much bigger look at the world ahead in “Dune” as well as the all-star cast including Timothée Chalamet (“Call Me by Your Name,” “Little Women”), Rebecca Ferguson (“Stephen King’s Doctor Sleep,” “Mission: Impossible – Fallout”), Oscar Isaac (the “Star Wars” franchise) Oscar nominee Josh Brolin (“Milk,” “Avengers: Infinity War”), Stellan Skarsgård (HBO’s “Chernobyl,” “Avengers: Age of Ultron”), Dave Bautista (the “Guardians of the Galaxy” films, “Avengers: Endgame”), Stephen McKinley Henderson (“Fences,” “Lady Bird”), Zendaya (“Spider-Man: Homecoming,” HBO’s “Euphoria”), Chang Chen (“Mr. Long,” “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”), David Dastmalchian (“Blade Runner 2049,” “The Dark Knight”), Sharon Duncan-Brewster (“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” Netflix’s “Sex Education”), with Oscar nominee Charlotte Rampling (“45 Years,” “Assassin’s Creed”), with Jason Momoa (“Aquaman,” HBO’s “Game of Thrones”), and Oscar winner Javier Bardem (“No Country for Old Men,” “Skyfall”).
