The first trailer for “Evil Dead Rise” has arrived and it appears the series is looking for a lot more scares than laughs with this latest installment…
The iconic “Evil Dead” franchise will be reborn with the new film “Evil Dead Rise,” which is due out in theaters on April 21 but the first trailer has now been unleashed.
The film is directed by Lee Cronin — best known for his work on the horror film “The Hole in the Ground” — with original series creator Sam Raimi and star Bruce Campbell both returning as executive producers.
“Evil Dead Rise” stars Lily Sullivan (“I Met a Girl,” “Barkskins”), Alyssa Sutherland (“The Mist,” “Vikings”), Morgan Davies (“Storm Boy,” “The End”), Gabrielle Echols (“Reminiscence”) and Nell Fisher (“Northspur”).
Here’s details about the plot from Warner Bros:
“Moving the action out of the woods and into the city, “Evil Dead Rise” tells a twisted tale of two estranged sisters, played by Sutherland and Sullivan, whose reunion is cut short by the rise of flesh-possessing demons, thrusting them into a primal battle for survival as they face the most nightmarish version of family imaginable.”
The new trailer shows plenty of blood and gore in store for the latest “Evil Dead” sequel but this also appears to be a film steeped in far more horror than the laughs that made up so much of the original trilogy starring Campbell that capped off with 1992’s “Army of Darkness.”
Of course, we won’t know for certain until “Evil Dead Rise” opens in April but this sequel appears much closer in spirit to the “Evil Dead” remake from 2013 (that is one of the best horror remakes out there) rather than sharing DNA with the original “Evil Dead” trilogy.
For now, check out the new trailer for “Evil Dead Rise” and get ready to open the Necronomicon with the film opens on April 21!
