The first look at “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” has arrived as director George Miller unleashes his prequel to the Oscar winning film “Mad Max: Fury Road”…
Over eight years after “Mad Max: Fury Road” was hailed as a cinematic achievement for action films and practical effects, Oscar winning director George Miller finally returns to his saga for a prequel focused on one of the main characters from his first movie in the series.
While Charlize Theron originated the role as Furiosa — a one-armed survivor who ends up helping Mad Max (Tom Hardy) and a group of women essentially being held captive by a power-hungry warlord — will now be taken over by Anya Taylor-Joy for the prequel.
Taylor-Joy will portray a younger version of Furiosa as she’s first taken from her family and ends up stuck in the middle of a battle between two warlords in the Wasteland. She’ll be joined on the adventure by “Avengers” star Chris Hemsworth as well.
Here’s the synopsis for “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga”
“As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus. Sweeping through the Wasteland, they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home.”
Obviously this film is titled as a “Mad Max” saga but there will be no Mad Max in this movie because Furiosa doesn’t meet that character until years later during the events of “Mad Max: Fury Road.”
The long awaited prequel starring Taylor-Joy could potentially kick off a much bigger saga set in the “Mad Max” universe with Miller developing several additional scripts as sequels that could eventually land in production one day.
