The first full length trailer for “House of the Dragon” has arrived as the Targaryens are prepared to tear each other apart to see who sits on the Iron Throne…
Misogyny is nothing new in the Seven Kingdoms and there’s no greater evidence to that fact than the central theme in “House of the Dragon” — the first major “Game of Thrones” spinoff set to debut on HBO on August 21.
The first full length trailer for the series debuted on Wednesday with a deeper look at the conflict that will eventually lead to the deadly Targaryen civil war better known as the Dance of the Dragons.
King Viserys I Targaryen has no male heirs so rather than anoint his brother Daemon as a successor to the Iron Throne, he decides to give that honor to his daughter Rhaenyra. Not only does King Viserys bestow this right of passage to his daughter but he begins grooming her to become the first woman to ever sit on the Iron Throne.
Needless to say that doesn’t sit well with a lot of powerful people in Westeros but none more influential than the King’s new wife Alicent Hightower, who eventually gives birth to a son that she believes should eventually take over for his father rather than Rhaenyra.
When King Viserys passes away, the bloody battle for the Iron Throne begins with family member pitted against family member to see who will eventually rule the Seven Kingdoms.
The new trailer starts to set up the rift building within the Targaryen family not to mention the other powerful people surrounding the king who either stand by his decision to name his daughter as his successor or those who don’t believe a woman should ever rule the realms.
