The first look at the “Game of Thrones” prequel “House of the Dragon” has arrived with a new trailer teasing what will be an epic Targaryen civil war…
“History does not remember blood. It remembers names”
That’s the teaser at the end of the first trailer for “House of the Dragon,” the upcoming “Game of Thrones” prequel set hundreds of years before the events in the original series.
“House of the Dragon” will tell the story of the Targaryen civil war better known as “The Dance of the Dragons” where factions inside the most powerful family in Westeros battled for the Iron Throne.
The new trailer teases what sets off tensions in the Seven Kingdoms after King Viserys I names his daughter Rhaenyra as the successor to his reign, which is a decision not well received for all those who believe only a man should sit on the throne.
The King’s decision also enrages his new wife Alicent Hightower, who ultimately gives him four more children including their eldest Aegon II and that’s who she believes should succeed his father when his time passes.
Needless to say, the fight over the Iron Throne turns bloody once King Viserys actually dies with Rhaenyra attempting to claim the kingdom she was promised by her father while Alicent and her faction do everything possible to ensure it’s Aegon taking over as the next King of Westeros.
For a deeper dive on “The Dance of the Dragons” take a look at a past installment from Send the Ravens, which explores the infamous Targaryen civil war.
That will serve as the central story for “House of the Dragon,” which will introduce dozens of new characters but plenty of famous last names that viewers will recognize from “Game of Thrones.”
Take a look at the new trailer and get ready for “House of the Dragon” to debut on HBO and HBO Max on Sunday night, August 21 at 9 p.m. ET.
