The first look at “Moon Knight” has arrived as the new trailer reveals Oscar Isaac as vigilante suffering from dissociative identity disorder…
“Embrace the chaos”
Those ominous words come at the conclusion for the new trailer for “Moon Knight” — the next major Marvel series headed to Disney+ with the debut set for March 30.
Oscar Isaac stars as Moon Knight in the new series, which appears to follow the most recent version of the character named Marc Spector, who suffers from dissociative identity disorder while also carrying a psychic connection to an Egyptian god named Khonshu.
In the comics, Marc takes on several different personalities including one who happens to be a trained mercenary and another who drives a cab for a living. The official synopsis for the series seems to follow that same origin story for Marc as he battles with his own internal demons while taking on the vengeful personal as Moon Knight:
“Oscar Issac plays Marc Spector, an ex-soldier with a profound case of dissociative identity disorder that manifests as fully distinct individuals. He becomes the conduit for the Egyptian moon god Khonshu, which only further exacerbates Marc’s anxiety over his mental illness.”
In the series, Marc also runs into a cult leader played by Ethan Hawke, who encourages him to embrace the darkness inside himself, which is actually a manifestation of the connection with Khonshu.
There have also been various versions of Moon Knight with the character sometimes possessing supernatural powers and others where Marc Spector uses his wealth to create all sorts of high tech gear and gadgets to help him become a masked vigilante. In many circles, Moon Knight is often compared to Batman, although Marc Spector’s origins and reasons for acting as a vigilante are far, far different from Bruce Wayne.
Much like Marvel did with “WandaVision,” it appears “Moon Knight” will be taking a much bigger swing than the average comic book story while examining Marc Spector’s fractured mind and the relationship he maintains with his alter-ego.
For now, take a look at the new trailer for “Moon Knight” and get ready for the season debut on Disney+ on March 30.
