The first trailer for “Obi-Wan Kenobi” has arrived as the former Jedi master tries to evade capture as the Empire hunts for him…
“The fight is done. We lost. Stay hidden.”
Those are the first words spoken by Ewan McGregor in the new trailer for “Obi-Wan Kenobi” — the limited event series that follows the Jedi master a decade after his battle with Anakin Skywalker that precipitated the rise of the Galactic Empire.
The teaser trailer released on Thursday shows Obi-Wan after he’s relocated to Tatooine in order to keep an eye on young Luke Skywalker, who we see briefly in the first look at the upcoming series.
Here’s the official synopsis for the show:
“The story begins 10 years after the dramatic events of “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith” where Obi-Wan Kenobi faced his greatest defeat—the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, who turned to the dark side as evil Sith Lord Darth Vader.”
McGregor will return to the role he played in the “Star Wars” prequels along with Hayden Christensen returning to portray Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader for the first time since “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith” in 2005.
The trailer shows how the Galactic Empire — now in complete control over the galaxy — is seeking to snuff out the last remaining Jedis who may have escaped Order 66. That was the command given by Emperor Palpatine to wipe out every member of the Jedi tribe.
Very few remained by Obi-Wan managed his escape after he defeated Anakin in battle and then fled to Tatooine to keep a watchful eye over his young son, Luke.
The trailer also teases the first live action appearance of The Grand Inquisitor — a character who previously only appeared in the animated “Star Wars” universe after first appearing on “Rebels.” The Grand Inquisitor’s job is to hunt down and kill any Jedi who may have escaped Order 66, which means he’s coming after Obi-Wan.
Of course, the trailer also features the ominous sound of Darth Vader at the end because he’s the one searching for his former Jedi master and also keep an eye out for Joel Edgerton’s return as Luke’s Uncle Owen as he reprises his role from the “Star Wars” prequels as well.
“Obi-Wan Kenobi” will debut on Disney+ on May 25 with new episodes debuting each Wednesday on the streaming service.
