The first look at “The Crow” remake starring Bill Skarsgard and FKA Twigs has been revealed with a new look at Eric Draven seeking bloody revenge…
“I’m going to kill them … every single one of them.”
The first look at “The Crow” remake from director Rupert Sanders has arrived with Bill Skarsgard taking over the role of Eric Draven, which was famously portrayed by Brandon Lee in his final role after his tragic death on set filming the original movie released in 1994.
The updated version of “The Crow” takes a modern twist and the old tale of revenge after lovers Eric Draven and Shelley Webster (FKA Twigs) are brutally murdered and a spirit brings back Eric from the dead to seek vengeance on all those involved in the horrific crime.
Here’s the plot synopsis for “The Crow” remake due out on June 7:
“Soulmates Eric Draven (Skarsgård) and Shelly Webster (FKA Twigs) are brutally murdered when the demons of her dark past catch up with them. Given the chance to save his true love by sacrificing himself, Eric sets out to seek merciless revenge on their killers, traversing the worlds of the living and the dead to put the wrong things right.”
The new film spends more time with Eric and Shelley than the original movie with Sanders previously explaining that he hoped to give the audience a better connection to the characters, which will hopefully add an even more powerful emotional element to the vengeance sought once The Crow resurrects Eric.
Skarsgard praised the original film and added that he was drawn to the remake thanks to the vision that Sanders had for his updated take on the story.
“I was a huge fan of the original film growing up as a kid and was so honored to take on the role of Eric Draven. But really what drew me to it was what Rupert Sanders wanted to do with it,” Skarsgard said. “He wanted to completely reimagine the story and the character and tailor it towards a modern audience. It’s a character that I know many revere and have a strong connection to – he is unlike any I’ve ever taken on before.
“Working with the remarkably talented FKA Twigs was magical. I felt a responsibility to Eric’s story and endeavored to stay true to the spirit of the source material; I can’t wait for the world to see the film, and hope it resonates with audiences as strongly as it did with those of us involved.”
The new trailer shows off an ultra violent version of “The Crow” as Eric begins hunting down the people responsible for his and Shelley’s death, which was orchestrated by a new villain played by Danny Huston.
“I am very pleased to have worked with two young actors whose performances are the backbone of this film,” Sanders said about the performances in the film. “Bill Skarsgard is so committed and vulnerable, monstrously violent and delicately tender, he brings so many layers to the complex emoNon of a man consumed with so much love and hate, but also a man who will do anything for the woman he loves. He fights, numb with pain and grief, killing and maiming for the one he loves…but to what end?
“FKA Twigs brings the same unique and wondrous talent that she does to her entire volume of work and her performance and the vacuum created by her absence undoubtedly gives reason for this Crow to be born.”
One more note — Sanders mentioned that he gave his version of The Crow a different look based on musicians such as Post Malone and Lil’ Peep and the new trailer actually features the song “Take What You Want” from Post Malone and Ozzy Osbourne.
