The trailer for “The First Omen” has arrived with a look at the prequel to the 1976 classic and featuring a creepy homage to that original film…
Nearly 50 years after “The Omen” landed in theaters and moviegoers met Damien aka The Antichrist for the first time, a new prequel plans to further explore the evil that birthed a child that would attempt to bring about the apocalypse.
“The First Omen” — a direct prequel to the 1976 film “The Omen” — had its first teaser trailer revealed on Wednesday with a brief look at what lies ahead in the ominous movie set for release on April 5.
Unlike many modern trailers, “The First Omen” teaser doesn’t give too much away but there’s definitely a similar spirit with this trailer and the original film. Here’s the synopsis for the film:
“When a young American woman is sent to Rome to begin a life of service to the church, she encounters a darkness that causes her to question her own faith and uncovers a terrifying conspiracy that hopes to bring about the birth of evil incarnate.”
The lead role in the film is played by Neil Tiger Free, who is best known for her past roles in “Game of Thrones” and the Apple TV series “Servant.”
Again, the trailer doesn’t give up much but an educated guess might be that this film will center around the woman who gets pregnant and actually ends up giving birth to Damien before the child is handed over to Robert and Kathy Thorn following the tragic death of their own baby in the same hospital.
One more note to make about the trailer for “The First Omen” — if you listen all the way to the end, you’ll hear some odd audio that sounds like somebody speaking in a foreign language but it’s not actually that. In fact, the clip you hear is probably the most famous clip from “The Omen” when Damien’s babysitter commits suicide by hanging but not before she shouts “Look at me Damien, it’s all for you!” as she jumps to her death.
The audio at the end of “The First Omen” trailer is that famous phrase played backwards!
Take a look at the new trailer for “The First Omen” and see if you can catch that backwards audio in the closing seconds and look for this movie to hit theaters on April 5.
