The first look at the highly anticipated series The Last of Us — based on the hugely popular video game of the same name — has arrived in a new trailer ahead of the show’s debut in 2023.
The series stars Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian, Game of Thrones) and Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones) in the lead roles as a pair of travelers tasked with crossing the United States after the world has fallen down around them. Here’s the official synopsis from HBO:
“Based on the critically acclaimed video game “The Last of Us,” developed by Naughty Dog for the PlayStation® platforms, the story takes place twenty years after modern civilization has been destroyed. Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey, as they both must traverse the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.”
The Last of Us creator Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin, who led the critically acclaimed series Chernobyl for HBO, will serve as executive producers on the series that also stars Gabriel Luna, Merle Dandridge, Nico Parker, Murray Bartlett, Nick Offerman, Jeffrey Pierce, Anna Torv and Melanie Lynskey.
Fans of the video games have been very excited to see this adaptation for some time but even casual viewers will likely enjoy what has been hailed as one of the most creative stories to ever unravel across any medium.
