The first full length trailer for “The Walking Dead” season 11 has arrived with plenty of new footage including The Reapers, the Commonwealth and more…
The final journey of “The Walking Dead” will begin on Sunday night, August 22 and the first full length trailer for season 11 has arrived.
When “The Walking Dead” season 10 ended, the Whisperers had finally been vanquished, Maggie returned home and Eugene led an expedition to meet up with a mysterious woman from a community far away from Alexandria who he met over the radio.
Now as the final season of “The Walking Dead” begins, the first trailer teases continuation of those stories as well as new enemies as well as casting news for some important new characters who will join the show in these last remaining 24 episodes.
Back in Alexandria, it appears that Maggie’s return has also brought a group known as the Reapers, who are coming after her and her people. The Reapers look like extras cast in “The Purge” as they all wear these strange and creepy Halloween styles masks and it appears these people aren’t just psychopaths looking for kicks on a Friday night.
Instead, the Reapers are teased as highly trained killers, which means they could be ex-military or worse but it looks like they are coming for the survivors in Alexandria.
Meanwhile, there’s also a lot of tension throughout this trailer between Maggie and Negan, who have co-existed separately for years but now they are going to be forced to live together again. Maggie has never forgotten what Negan did to Glenn when he first introduced himself to the survivors and even through she’s done her best to move beyond her hate for him, it looks like she’s still seething at the fact that he’s walking around free while her husband is dead.
The trailer also gives a brief look at Eugene and his group continuing to deal with the stormtrooper like soldiers, who captured them when they tried to rendezvous with Stephanie in West Virginia. Of course, these soldiers are members of the Commonwealth — a huge sprawling community with more than 50,000 people — and this is likely going to be the staging area for the last episodes of the season.
There’s even a creepy welcome video at the end of the trailer that introduces a new character named Lance Hornsby, who will be played by Josh Hamilton, who is best known for his roles in TV series such as “Mrs. Fletcher” as well as “13 Reasons Why.”
Another key casting announced for the final season of “The Walking Dead’ was Laila Robins as Pamela Milton, who is the governor over the Commonwealth. Robins will be easily recognized from her recent work on “The Boys” where she played CIA maven Grace Mallory.
In this series, Robins will be portraying the woman leading The Commonwealth, which was founded on restarting society in the wake of the zombie apocalypse where people are grouped by a class system that is determined by somebody’s particular worth to the community.
“The Walking Dead” season 11 will ultimately be split into three parts with 8 episodes each. The first installment will debut on August 22, with the second and third parts to the final season debuting in 2022.
