The new season of “True Detective” is set to debut on January 14 with the new trailer continuing to hint at ties to the beloved first season of the show…
The latest installment of “True Detective” titled “Night Country” finally has a debut date set on January 14 on HBO with a new trailer for the show also revealed.
The series will serve as the first season without original creator Nic Pizzolatto on board as the creative force behind the show. Instead, Issa Lopez — best known for her gorgeous and heartbreaking horror film “Tigers Are Not Afraid” — takes over as showrunner, writer and executive producer.
Of course, Jodie Foster leads the new season of the series, which is set in Alaska amid a murder investigation into a bizarre group of killings. Here’s the official synopsis from HBO:
“When the long winter night falls in Ennis, Alaska, the eight men who operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station vanish without a trace. To solve the case, Detectives Liz Danvers (Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Kali Reis) will have to confront the darkness they carry in themselves, and dig into the haunted truths that lie buried under the eternal ice.”
The first trailer for “True Detective: Night Country” had one particular moment that teased a potential tie back to the first season of the series, which starred Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson as they investigated an occult murder that followed them for years.
The latest trailer for the new season continues to hint at the ties between the two installments of “True Detective” after a spiral pattern is found at the murder scene, which is the same symbol that represented the occult sect of killers from the first season of “True Detective” and the phrase “time is a flat circle.”
It was the same symbol that Reggie Ledoux — one of the killers from the first season of “True Detective” — had tattooed on his shoulder as well as the spiral pattern found on the body of Dora Lange, who was the initial victim that led to the murder investigation from Detectives Marty Hart and Rust Cohle.
Based on the trailers, “True Detective: Night Country” will have some connection to that same symbol but what exactly it means, we’ll all have to wait and see.
For now, check out the new trailer for “True Detective: Night Country” and get ready for the series to debut in January!
