Warner Bros. has decided to skip out on San Diego Comic Con 2019 while ‘Game of Thrones’ is expected to return for one last celebration…
San Diego Comic Con is almost exactly one month away and announcements should be forthcoming any day now on the panels and appearances that will take place at the annual celebration of pop culture and all things geek.
Unfortunately, the 2019 version of San Diego Comic Con will be without a presentation from Warner Bros. Studios, which is typically one of the most highly anticipated panels taking place each year. Warner Bros. usually gets a two hour window on Saturday morning in the jam-packed Hall H with more than 6,000 screaming fans itching for a look at what’s coming next from the popular studios.
In past years, Warner Bros. have revealed first looks at movies such as ‘Justice League’, ‘Aquaman’, ‘Wonder Woman’ and even announced ‘Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice’ with a special presentation a few years back.
Despite the upcoming releases of films such as ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ as well as ‘Joker’ and the upcoming ‘Harley Quinn’ spinoff, Warner Bros. has decided to skip out on San Diego Comic Con 2019.
Many have speculated that part of the reason Warner Bros. bowed out is because Marvel is expected to have a major presence at San Diego Comic Con this year with rumors swirling that the Disney owned studio may announce the next phase of their film universe, which would undoubtedly dwarf any other footage or appearances taking place this year. If Marvel does confirm a massive panel for this year’s Comic Con event, there is little doubt that the studio presentation will ultimately become the most talked about event of the year.
There’s also a very good chance that Lucasfilm makes a major presentation at San Diego Comic Con this year with the upcoming release of ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’ — the final film in the current ‘Star Wars’ trilogy — not to mention a potential trailer debut for ‘The Mandalorian’, which will land on the Disney+ streaming service later this year.
While Warner Bros. is skipping out on San Diego Comic Con, Deadline reports that ‘Game of Thrones’ is expected to return for one last showcase to celebrate the popular HBO series just weeks after the final episode aired.
‘Game of Thrones’ skipped out on San Diego Comic Con last year because the final season was still in production and there was still no word at the time when the series was going to return.
It appears that HBO wants to celebrate one last time with the ‘Game of Thrones’ cast — although there’s still no word on who is slated to appear. Creator George R.R. Martin is expected to attend, although ‘Game of Thrones’ showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss are not slated to show up at Comic Con.
HBO bringing ‘Game of Thrones’ to San Diego Comic Con 2019 could be a harbinger for big plans from the network for this year’s event. HBO has several series worth promoting at Comic Con this year including ‘Westworld’, which returns in 2020, as well as the upcoming ‘Watchmen’ series from Damon Lindelof.
Stay tuned for more news on San Diego Comic Con 2019 as information and panels are made available and of course, Nerdcore Movement will be on site throughout the entire event to provide coverage!
