The new “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” trailer dropped on Sunday night during the Super Bowl and the latest look at the film definitely seems to hint that this will be the last time this team will appear together on screen.
Now we already know that director and writer James Gunn has said this would be his final “Guardians of the Galaxy” film and he’s essentially responsible for every facet for all three movies in the series so it’s tough to imagine Marvel opting to just carry on without him. Of course, Gunn will also soon be turning his attention to his new gig at DC where he’s acting as co-CEO while leading the creative direction for the studio, which obviously means he won’t be available to return to Marvel anyway!
As far as the new “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” film, which opens on May 5, the team runs into a new obstacle this time with Chukwudi Iwuji debuting as the High Evolutionary — a scientist obsessed with creating the perfect society who was also responsible for Rocket’s creation.
The Guardians will also go up against Adam Warlock (Will Poulter) — a warrior created by the Sovereign specifically to go after Star-Lord and his team and destroy them. We first met The Sovereign back in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” and the creation of Adam Warlock was teased back then but now the character will finally arrive in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Longtime comic book fans will have plenty of memories of Adam Warlock, particularly after he played a major role in the original “Infinity Gauntlet” storyline involving Thanos as well as the aftermath from that series of books.
Also don’t miss the track playing during the trailer — “Since You’ve Been Gone” by Rainbow.
From the look of things, there will be plenty of surprises as well as the Guardians prepare to go on one last mission together. Watch the new “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” trailer and get ready for the film to land in theaters on May 5.
