Check out the new trailer for “Gen V” — the spinoff to “The Boys” — along with details about the plot and the characters involved in the series…
“The Boys” will head to college with the upcoming spinoff tiled “Gen V” with the first three episodes of the series set to debut on Amazon Prime Video on September 29.
The first trailer for the highly anticipated series dropped this week and it looks like this show will definitely get just as blood and probably just as shocking as “The Boys” except this time the Supes will be powered up college aged students seeking to advance in their careers — and possibly even join Homelander in The Seven!
Here’s the official synopsis for “Gen V” ahead of the debut:
“Set in the diabolical world of The Boys, Gen V expands the universe to Godolkin University, the prestigious superhero-only college where students train to be the next generation of heroes—preferably with lucrative endorsements. You know what happens when supes go bad, but not all superheroes start out corrupt. Beyond the typical college chaos of finding oneself and partying, these kids are facing explosive situations … literally. As the students vie for popularity and good grades, it’s clear that the stakes are much higher when super powers are involved. When the group of young supes discover that something bigger and sinister is going on at school, they’re put to the test: Will they be the heroes or the villains of their stories?”
Details about the characters — including some appearances from the main cast of “The Boys” — have also been revealed as well.
Marie Moreau — played by “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” alum Jaz Sinclair — serves as the lead of the series. Marie is a former resident of Red River Institute — a facility we’ve previously seen in “The Boys” — that serves as both a home for orphaned supes but also a place where Vought International sticks people with powers too unstable to control. Marie’s power involves blood manipulation because she can use the substance to create whips, blades and other objects that she can control, which is why she also carries a pocket knife on her at all times.
When Marie arrives at Godolkin, she’s wide-eyed with hopes of advancing her career just like all of the other teenaged supes but she soon discovers a dark mystery at the heart of the school that may shatter her expectations about what it means to become a superhero.
Emma Meyer — played by Lizzie Broadway — is Marie’s roommate with the power to shrink herself down to microscopic size before expanding again. Of course we already met Termite back in “The Boys” season 3 and that ended with disastrous consequences when he sneezed at the exact wrong time — so it’s hard to tell what kind of insanity might pop up when Emma shrinks down and blows up again.
Luke Riordan aka Golden Boy — played by Patrick Schwarzenegger — is the star of the school and the highest ranked superhero at Godolkin. At this school, grades don’t matter but rather rankings, which determine where these kids will go after graduation. Some will be shipped off to various superhero teams around the world — the higher the ranking, the more prestigious the assignment — while some students who don’t qualify to become heroes or perhaps their powers don’t give them the right kind of abilities may end up at the performing arts school instead.
At Godolkin, Golden Boy lives up to his name as the top-rated Supe with aspirations to potentially join The Seven — the biggest and most prestigious team promoted by Vought. Golden Boy has the ability to light his entire body on fire, much like the Human Torch from The Fantastic Four,
Andre Anderson — played by another “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” alum in Chance Perdomo — serves as Luke’s best friend with the ability to manipulate metal sort of like Magneto from the X-Men. He’s ranked No. 3 overall among the students when the season begins.
Cate Dunlap — played by Maddie Phillips — is Luke’s girlfriend who is usually seen wearing gloves thanks to her ability to telepathically “push” people to do whatever she wants just by touching them.
Jordan Li — played by both Derek Luh and London Thor — has the ability to switch between male and female forms while using they/them pronouns. When Jordan is a female, they are quick and agile with the ability to fire energy blasts from their hands. As a male, Jordan is dense and indestructible with skin that can’t be penetrated even by bullets. Jordan is the No. 2 ranked student at Godolkin while also considered the prize pupil of Professor Rich “Brink” Brinkerhoff — played by Clancy Brown — who runs the School of Crime Fighting and counts the likes of Queen Maeve, A-Train and The Deep as past students that learned under him.
Tek Knight — played by Derek Wilson — is another character debuting in “Gen V” with ties to the original series because Tek Knight also appeared in “The Boys” comic book. In that series, Tek Knight was a member of Payback — the second most popular superhero group behind The Seven — although those ties weren’t mentioned when Payback appeared in “The Boys” season 3 as led by Soldier Boy in flashbacks.
Like Iron Man, Tek Knight uses a powerful suit of armor but in the comics he actually had no powers provided to him by Compound-V. Tek Knight was mentioned briefly back in “The Boys” season 1 during a support group meeting after he accidentally shattered a person’s spine leaving them paralyzed while executing a rescue attempt.
There will also be several crossover characters from “The Boys” who will appear in “Gen V” including Congresswoman Victoria Neuman — played by Claudia Doumit — when she stops by the university during a campaign stop alongside presidential candidate Robert Singer. It was discovered during “The Boys” season 3 that Victoria previously resided at the Red River Institute before she effectively became an adopted daughter to former Vought CEO Stan Edgar, who used her as a weapon against his enemies because Victoria has the ability to pop heads like a zit, which we saw happen numerous times back in “The Boys” season 2.
Now Victoria is one step away from the White House as a vice presidential candidate but she’s always keeping her eyes on the next generation of Supes including the students at Godolkin.
Jessie T. Usher and Chace Crawford are also slated to appear in “Gen V” as A-Train and The Deep from The Seven after both previously attended Godolkin University.
And of course Colby Minifie makes an appearance as Ashley Barrett — the always stressed acting CEO of Vought, who will surely have plenty to clean up when things go haywire at this university filled with teenaged supes. Oh and don’t forget P.J. Byrne stopping by as Adam Bourke — the director behind the smash hit film “Dawn of the Seven,” who will be a guest professor in the upcoming season.
“Gen V” takes place between “The Boys” season 3, which has already aired, and the upcoming season 4, which completed filming earlier this year, although there’s still no word when the show might debut.
For now, gear up for “Gen V” with the first three episodes dropping on Amazon Prime Video on September 29 and you can also check out the new poster below:
