“Watchmen” was hailed as one of the greatest achievements in television over the past year and now the series has been nominated for a whopping 26 awards at the 2020 Emmys…
“Watchmen” has already been hailed as a true achievement in television since first debuting last year and now the Damon Lindelof led series will have the best chance to take home a lot of statues at the 2020 Emmy Awards.
On Tuesday the nominations for the 2020 Emmys were announced with “Watchmen” leading all contenders with a whopping 26 nominations. Those receiving recognition included nominations for Outstanding Limited Series, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie (Jeremy Irons) and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie (Regina King).
“There are no words to describe what today has been like, but here are some words to describe what today has been like,” Lindelof wrote on Instagram. “I was shocked, then relieved, then grateful, then overwhelmed, then numb, then ashamed because I saw the tilt of the table and understood why everything upon it slid towards me. I felt the imbalance of altruism and atonement – and knew that I talk too much about the former and not enough about the latter. I felt more pride than I thought was possible, radiating out along as many spokes as letters in the alphabet… and knowing that there was no hub because we were all the wheel.
“And I was no showrunner because this show ran me. To all the brilliant artists who made our beloved Watchmen, both recognized and unacknowledged, I am forever transformed by your patience, your care and your trust. I didn’t deserve those gifts, but I will never forget the grace with which you offered them. My gratitude is infinite and boundless. Thank you. ALL of you. A wise blue man once said that nothing ever ends… but some things have to. That’s the only way they can begin again. My part in this story is over. Whatever happens next? I leave it entirely in your hands.”
“Succession” from HBO also racked up 18 Emmy nominations including Outstanding Drama Series as well as a pair of nods for Outstanding Lead Actor for Jeremy Strong and Brian Cox.
“Ozark” on Netflix also received a similar 18 nominations after taking home several awards in 2019 with the series back in the Outstanding Drama category as well as acting recognition for Outstanding Lead Actor for Jason Bateman and Outstanding Lead Actress for Laura Linney.
One of the best surprises during the 2020 Emmy nominations was the Disney+ series “The Mandalorian” receiving 15 total nominations including recognition for Outstanding Drama Series. The first ever live action “Star Wars” series from writer/director Jon Favreau was a huge hit for the launch of Disney+ and now the series will celebrate a huge number of Emmy nominations for the first season.
