“Wednesday” will return for season 2 on Netflix despite rumors that perhaps the show might end after Amazon bought the studio producing the series…
“Wednesday” will officially dance again for season 2 on Netflix.
The series adapted from “The Addams Family” starring Jenna Ortega in the lead role received an official order for season 2 despite speculation online that perhaps Netflix was going to pass on more episodes after Amazon purchased MGM, which happens to be the studio producing the show.
Actually, Amazon passed on “Wednesday” as a potential series before the show ended up at Netflix. Now “Wednesday” has become the third most watched series in Netflix history behind only “Stranger Things” season 4 and “Squid Game.”
“It’s been incredible to create a show that has connected with people across the world,” co-showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar said in a statement. “Thrilled to continue Wednesday’s tortuous journey into season two.
“We can’t wait to dive head first into another season and explore the kooky spooky world of Nevermore. Just need to make sure Wednesday hasn’t emptied the pool first.”
There’s no word yet on how involved Tim Burton will be in “Wednesday” season 2 after he served as a producer on the series while also directing the first four episodes.
“Wednesday” is a modern updated telling of “The Addams Family” story described as “a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy, where she attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the murder mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore.”
With “Wednesday” being renewed for season 2, there’s also been early talks about potentially developing as spinoff series as well, although nothing has been ordered just yet.
While production on “Wednesday” season 2 might not start for a little while, the show continues to rack up huge ratings on Netflix with clips from the show going viral including the infamous clip featuring Ortega’s dance that has been duplicated thousands of times across social media.
