Here’s a list of the biggest panels and best events that could produce news, trailers and all sorts of other interesting information from San Diego Comic Con 2019…
By Damon Martin — Editor/Lead Writer
It’s that time of year again — San Diego Comic Con is upon us and even if you aren’t able to make it to the massive pop culture convention, there’s plenty of ways to live vicariously through the slew of trailers, videos and announcements that will start pouring in this week.
Nerdcore Movement will be on the scene for the convention all week long bringing photos, videos, news and exclusives from the event.
Of course there are a ton of panels and special engagements worth watching at San Diego Comic Con this year and we’ve compiled a list of the best of the best along with what you can expect coming from those events.
The action all starts on Wednesday night, July 17 so be prepared with our official guide for what to watch for at San Diego Comic Con 2019.
WEDNESDAY, JULY 19
Batwoman and Pennyworth Premieres
Wednesday — known as preview night at San Diego Comic Con — doesn’t typically offer a ton to do outside of perusing the convention floor but there is one event that always draws a crowd and that’s the premiere screenings from Warner Bros. held in Ballroom 20.
This year will feature a number of exclusive screenings including the first look at the pilot episode of ‘Batwoman’ starring Ruby Rose ahead of the debut on the CW later this year.
The preview screening will also feature the first look at the debut episode of ‘Pennyworth’ — the Batman prequel focused on his butler Alfred Pennyworth — which will eventually air on the EPIX network.
The screening will also include new episodes of ‘The 100’ and ‘Rooster Teeth’.
Scare-Diego
New Line Cinema’s newest event that lands at Comic Con each year presents the biggest and best horror movies coming soon from the studio and this will be a big one.
‘It: Chapter Two’ will take center stage with Conan O’Brien hosting the Q&A with the cast and crew from the upcoming horror film based on the Stephen King classic.
It’s likely they will debut new footage for this special session but often times New Line will keep this just for the people in attendance so it’s tough to say if a new trailer or any other information will emerge from this particular presentation.
THURSDAY, JULY 20
Terminator: Dark Fate
At 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, ‘Terminator: Dark Fate’ will kick off the cavernous Hall H for a special look at the new film that reunites Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton in a direct sequel to ‘T2: Judgment Day’.
The cast and crew will obviously talk about the upcoming film with new footage or even a new trailer expected at the panel on Thursday.
Evil Debut Screening
The new CBS series that sounds a lot like ‘The X-Files’ will debut its first episode in Ballroom 20 at 12:45 p.m. The show teams up a skeptical psychologist with a priest in training and a carpenter as they explore the backlog of unexplained cases from the church that straddle the line between science and religion. ‘Luke Cage’ star Mike Colter and ‘Sleepy Hollow’ veteran Katja Herbers lead the cast
His Dark Materials
HBO will land in Hall H at 4:45 p.m. with this panel digging into their new series ‘His Dark Materials’ with stars such as James McAvoy, Dafne Keen and Lin Manuel-Miranda scheduled to appear. Expects new footage and perhaps even a new trailer from this highly anticipated panel
Cobra Kai — Past, Present and Future
The recently revived ‘Karate Kid’ spinoff that has found a huge audience on YouTube will take over Comic Con for the first time with the cast and crew expected to appear on stage. Season 2 landed recently and filming for season 3 hasn’t started yet but it’s entirely possible there could be some new cast announcements forthcoming with this panel.
During ‘Cobra Kai’ season 2, it was often hinted that Elisabeth Shue could potentially return to reprise her role from ‘The Karate Kid’ so it’s possible that announcement happens at Comic Con.
FRIDAY, JULY 19
Writing Avengers: Endgame
Screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely take center stage in this Hall H panel at 10:00 a.m. on Friday morning as they look back on the work they did on both ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame’. Expect plenty of insight into both films along with a hint at what this dynamic duo has coming next, which will play directly into the following panel.
A Conversation with the Russo Brothers
At 11:00 a.m. the Russo brothers will take over Hall H as they look back on their successful run as directors for some of Marvel’s biggest films including ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame’ not to mention ‘Captain America: Winter Soldier’ and ‘Captain America: Civil War’.
The Russo brothers also have their own production company now with Markus and McFeely already on board so it’s likely some announcements will be coming about what they will be up to next. The Russo’s have said that they are moving beyond Marvel, which is probably why they are getting their own panel on Friday with Marvel Studios set to present on Saturday.
The Walking Dead
Always a hugely popular panel at San Diego Comic Con, the new look cast of ‘The Walking Dead’ will take over Hall H at 1:00 p.m. on Friday with a guaranteed glimpse of the new season. It’s tradition that ‘The Walking Dead’ debuts the first full length trailer and usually the debut date during their Comic Con panel, although AMC will typically post that video online within seconds of airing during this panel.
Of course, the cast will also be making an appearance to answer questions about this past season and what lies ahead. Danai Gurira is scheduled to appear and this is expected to be her final season as a cast member on the show so that could be something to watch for this Friday. Last year saw Andrew Lincoln address his exit at the start of the panel so it’s likely Gurira will get a similar opportunity to say goodbye to ‘The Walking Dead’ fans in this panel.
The Witcher
Another panel that will draw a huge crowd on Friday will be Netflix’s new series ‘The Witcher’ starring Henry Cavill. Based on a series of best-selling fantasy books, ‘The Witcher’ follows Geralt of Rivia, who is a notorious monster hunter with Cavill set to make an appearance on stage.
It’s highly likely that we’ll get our first look at ‘The Witcher’ in this panel with a trailer or at least some kind of teaser so expect that to land on Friday
The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance
The other Netflix series coming to Comic Con will be this sneak peek at ‘The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance’, which serves as a prequel to the 1982 film.
The Boys
Amazon will get into superhero game with this new series based on the comic book of the same name — although this isn’t your typical spandex and capes kind of show.
In ‘The Boys’, superheroes have taken celebrity to a new level and many of them begin abusing their powers, which means a team of specialists are brought into deal with the situation. New footage and a trailer will likely debut during this panel.
Carnival Row
The second Amazon series taking center stage in Ballroom 20 at 4:45 p.m on Friday will get a first glimpse at this new fantasy series starring Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne.
‘Carnival Row’ is a series set in a Victorian fantasy world filled with mythological immigrant creatures whose exotic homelands were invaded by the empires of man. This growing population struggles to coexist with humans — forbidden to live, love, or fly with freedom.
Game of Thrones
HBO’s hugely popular series ‘Game of Thrones’ will make one final appearance at San Diego Comic Con with this farewell panel. The series has been a huge part of Comic Con for several years but ‘Game of Thrones’ skipped out last year while the show was still in post- production for the final season.
Now ‘Game of Thrones’ will return for one last panel to say goodbye with a slew of cast members expected to appear along with show runners David Benioff and Dan Weiss. It’s the first time they’ve made an appearance since the ‘Game of Thrones’ finale aired in May.
Creepshow
Based on the popular film of the same name by George Romero, ‘Creepshow’ will serve as a new horror anthology with showrunner Greg Nicotero at the helm.
The series stars Giancarlo Esposito, Tricia Helfer, Adrienne Barbeau and many more with each episode delving into a different corner of the horror universe.
Preacher
Following ‘Game of Thrones’ will be the last panel of the day in Hall H as AMC’s ‘Preacher’ makes one more appearance ahead of their final season.
Expect the first full length trailer for the season to debut on Friday with the show scheduled to return to AMC on Aug. 4.
SATURDAY, JULY 20
Batwoman
A screening of the pilot will take place on Saturday in Ballroom 20 starting at 10:30 a.m. with a panel to follow with appearances from Ruby Rose, Rachel Starsten, Meagan Tandy and Nicole Kang
Enter the Star Trek Universe
Star Trek will kick off the day in Hall H at 11:30 a.m. with a panel that will include features on ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ as well as the highly anticipated ‘Star Trek: Picard’ series. Sir Patrick Stewart is scheduled to appear, which means we will likely get our first look at this new series.
The animated series ‘Star Trek: Lower Decks’ will also be featured during this 90 minute panel.
Westworld
The first real look at ‘Westworld’ season 3 will happen during this panel in Hall H at 1:15 p.m. on Saturday with new cast member Aaron Paul scheduled to make an appearance.
It’s tough to say how much footage will be shown but it’s likely we’ll get at least a small teaser about the season ahead despite the show not returning to HBO until some time in 2020.
Arrow
Ahead of the final season of ‘Arrow’, celebrate with the cast one last time with much of the cast expected to appear including Stephen Amell. It’s also highly likely that the first trailer for the final season will debut during this panel at 3:30 p.m.
Supergirl
Much like the other CW series, ‘Supergirl’ will descend upon San Diego with this panel that will feature the first footage from season 5.
The Man in the High Castle
The final season of ‘The Man in the High Castle’ will debut on Amazon later this year and this panel will give a first look at what lies ahead in this series that blends fantasy with history in a world where the Nazis won World War II.
It’s likely a full length trailer will debut during the panel and perhaps even a debut date for the final season.
Black Lightning
The string of CW series in Ballroom 20 continues with ‘Black Lightning’ with a first look at season 3 expected.
Marvel Studios
Perhaps the biggest panel of the entire week will hit Hall H at 5:15 p.m. on Saturday as Kevin Feige introduces Marvel Studios.
There’s no telling what this presentation could include but with 90 minutes scheduled, it’s likely going to be a look back at the past 10 years and then a preview of what lies ahead.
Rumors have been swirling that at least part of ‘The Avengers’ cast will be making an appearance for a final swan song after the events in ‘Avengers: Endgame’. The other major rumor is that Feige will begin introducing the films and stars for the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The big question — will Marvel address the addition of the X-Men and the Fantastic Four after acquiring both properties from FOX? Anything seems possible in this massive presentation on Saturday.
The Flash
The final CW series of the day will be the most popular one as ‘The Flash’ lands in Ballroom 20 at 5:45 p.m. on Saturday. Expect the first trailer to debut ahead of ‘The Flash’ returning in October.
Kevin Smith Reboots Hall H
A popular panel to close out Hall H on Saturday, writer and director Kevin Smith will do his usual Q&A but this year he will be joined by his hetero lifemate Jason Mewes while also debuting the first trailer for his new movie ‘Jay & Silent Bob Reboot’.
SUNDAY, JULY 21
Supernatural
The first panel of the day in Hall H on Sunday will be the last for ‘Supernatural’ as the long running series comes to an end with the final season debuting later this year.
With the cast scheduled to appear, expect a teary-eyed look back at one of the longest running science fiction series in history as well as a look ahead of what will come during the final season.
Riverdale
Following ‘Supernatural’, it’s time for ‘Riverdale’ to take over Hall H with the first look at season 4 coming later this year on the CW. The cast and crew are expected to appear and it’s entirely possible there will be a tribute to Luke Perry, who sadly passed away earlier this year.
Mayans M.C.
The popular ‘Sons of Anarchy’ spinoff will return to Comic Con on Sunday at 1 p.m. with a panel debuting the first footage from season 2, which returns to FX in September. The lead cast is all expected to appear along with series creator Kurt Sutter.
Stay tuned for constant updates from San Diego Comic Con starting on Wednesday as Nerdcore Movement reports from the scene!
