“Yellowjackets” has already been renewed for a third season on Showtime a few months ahead of the season 2 debut…
There’s been a lot of buzz about “Yellowjackets” (no pun intended) ever since the series first premiere and now the show has been renewed for a third season prior to the second season even debuting.
Showtime announced that “Yellowjackets” would return for season 3 with season 2 set to drop on March 24.
The series that takes place in two different timelines is based around an elite girls’ soccer team that ends up stranded in the wilderness following a plane crash and they are forced to do anything and everything to survive. In the aftermath of that ordeal 25 years later, the surviving members of that plane crash then start to face the consequences of those actions as the past comes back to haunt them.
“With Yellowjackets‘ runaway success in season one and the pent-up anticipation for season two, we wanted to maximize the momentum by fast tracking season three now,” said Chris McCarthy, president and CEO of Showtime and Paramount Media Networks.
“The show’s ambition is only exceeded by its execution, and I thank the incredible creative team behind it, including Ashley, Bart, Jonathan [Lisco], eOne and the Showtime team, for turning this into such a success.”
“Yellowjackets” was an immediate success for Showtime after it first debuted with the series earning several award nominations including numerous Emmys including Best Series, Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress.
The series stars Melanie Lynskey, Christina Ricci, Juliette Lewis and Tawny Cypress as the older counterparts with Sophie Nélisse, Samantha Hanratty, Sophie Thatcher and Jasmin Savoy Brown portraying the younger versions who end up stranded after the plane crash.
There’s no word how quickly production will start on “Yellowjackets” season 3 but for now get ready for season 2 to debut in March.
