Zack Snyder has found his next project.
Fresh off the success of “Army of the Dead,” the writer and director will now move from zombies to outer space as he prepares to embark on a new sci-fi film called “Rebel Moon.”
Snyder will direct the feature, which is set to debut on Netflix, and he will also co-write the script alongside Shay Hatten, who also worked on “Army of the Dead” and Kurt Johnstad from the film “300.”
Here’s the synopsis for “Rebel Moon” courtesy of Netflix:
“REBEL MOON is set in a peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy that finds itself threatened by the armies of the tyrannical Regent Balisarius. Its only hope is a young woman with a mysterious past who seeks out warriors from neighboring planets to help them take a stand.”

According to Snyder, the seeds of this idea started as something he actually pitched as a potential “Star Wars” film or even TV series but the conversations never went anywhere serious after George Lucas sold Lucasfilm to Disney.
Now Snyder will transform that initial story idea into a new film for Netflix as he pays homage to his love for science fiction and fantasy epic adventures.
“This is me growing up as an Akira Kurosawa fan, a ‘Star Wars’ fan,” Snyder told The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s my love of sci-if and a giant adventure. My hope is that this also becomes a massive IP and a universe that can be built out.”
In the grand scheme of things, Snyder would hope to build an entire universe around “Rebel Moon.” much like he did with “Army of the Dead,” which already has a prequel and an anime series in pre-production.
Snyder hopes to begin production on “Rebel Moon” in early 2022.
