The 2016 Golden Globe awards are in the books and Mr. Robot, Lady Gaga and The Revenant were among the big winners of the night …
Award season has officially picked up with the Golden Globes honoring the best on television and in film with dozens of awards being handed out. At the top of the list for film awards, The Revenant cleaned up in the three major categories winning best director, best actor and best film of the year.
Leonardo DiCaprio won for best actor as most predicted but this was just a precursor to his real award winning goal this year, which is to finally take home an Oscar for best actor — an award that has continually eluded him despite several outstanding performances.
The Revenant also won for best drama and best director for Alejandro G. Iñárritu, who will surely get a lot of nods for the Academy Awards as well on the heels of his last win for Birdman (or the Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) in 2015.
The Martian (our pick for the best movie of 2015) also won for best comedy while Matt Damon won for best actor in a comedy. Considering no one really believed The Martian was a comedy this was a rather dubious honor but chances are The Martian will be going head to head with The Revenant in most of the award shows between now and the Academy Awards.
The television categories featured several upsets and surprises including Lady Gaga getting the win for best actress in a limited series or TV movie for her performance on American Horror Story: Hotel this season. She was brought to near tears as she accepted the award in her first featured role on television.
Freshman hit Mr. Robot (also our pick for best TV show of the year) won for best TV drama with Christian Slater also getting a victory for best supporting actor in a drama.
