There’s a new Jack Bauer in town as 24: Legacy has cast The Walking Dead and Straight Outta Compton star Corey Hawkins in the lead role …
It appears 24: Legacy has found someone to replace Kiefer Sutherland in the rebooted series on FOX.
Corey Hawkins — best known for playing Dr. Dre in Straight Outta Compton as well as Heath in The Walking Dead — has been cast in the lead role in the upcoming series 24: Legacy, which is a rebooted version of the classic 24 series.
Hawkins will play Eric Carter who is described as “strong and smart, Eric came from a very rough background and turned his life around in the Army Rangers. Now back home in Virginia with his wife Nicole, he’s pulled back into action as his past comes looking for him.”
According to the original description for the show, Eric turns to CTU for help before he uncovers a massive plot that could unleash a huge terrorist attack on American soil.
Rumors have swirled ever since FOX unveiled 24: Live Another Day that the series would return again in some form, but it was just revealed recently that the show was coming back as a complete reboot. While the show takes place in the same 24 universe, it’s not likely many (if any) of the past characters will even make appearances.
Sutherland has already stated that he’s out and will not show up in the rebooted 24 despite originally saying that he might be willing to show up for a couple of episodes. Now it seems FOX is moving forward with the show while essentially cutting all ties to the past and starting fresh with a new cast and a new face to lead the series.
Hawkins is currently recurring on The Walking Dead on AMC and it’s unknown at this time if filming for 24: Legacy will cause him to change his schedule with the hit AMC show or if he might be forced to leave all together if the new series is a success.
