Jack and Audrey finally reconnect on the latest episode of ’24: Live Another Day’ as Margot Al-Hazari finally reveals her plot and end game to President Heller…

You’d think with terrorists plotting assassinations, bombings, kidnappings and every other manner of horrible atrocity that ’24’ hero Jack Bauer wouldn’t have much time for romance, but he’s made his way through to love a few ladies during his course of time on the show. From his affair with Nina Meyers to Kate Warner to Renee Walker, Jack is not only the ultimate bad ass, he’s also a super spy lothario. But outside of his wife Teri, who met her demise in season one, the only person that’s stuck around Jack for several years is the real love of his life, Audrey Raines.
Audrey and Jack were the real love connection on ’24’ but it ended in flames when Audrey went on a mission to find Jack after he was kidnapped by the Chinese, and she’s the one that ended up tortured and drugged to the point where she was left in a catatonic state unable to speak, react or do much of anything. Only through painstaking years of therapy and the love of another man (now Presidential Chief of Staff Mark Boudreau) did Audrey recover and come back to the world.
But after years away from each other, Audrey and Jack were finally reunited on the latest episode of ’24: Live Another Day’ but while their emotional encounter stole the show in terms of tugging at the heart strings, there was plenty going on away from the normally Jack-centric show so we’ll get back to the lovebirds in just a little bit. First things first…
Hack in Action
With Jack being taken into custody, we leave the majority of the episode in the capable hands of agent Kate Morgan, who took Lieutenant Tanner’s flight key to finish the upload to Chloe so they could hopefully find the evidence necessary to prove to President Heller that the drone that killed several American and British officers was indeed hijacked and more bad news was coming soon if terrorist Margot Al-Harazi has the technology necessary to do even more damage.
Once Chloe gets the info, her boss Adrian Cross spots the subtle hack that was used to overtake the drone and fire off the missile that killed all those people. It doesn’t take long for Kate to send the confirmation over to Navarro, who verifies the hack job and then has to break the bad news to Mark Boudreau — Jack Bauer was right all along.
Navarro gets on the horn with the President and breaks the news that Tanner’s drone was indeed hijacked and now terrorists are in possession of a device that will allow them to take control of even more drones and do some serious harm to the people of London if they get these weapons into their hands. The President orders that all drones are taken offline and landed worldwide as a precaution. Unfortunately….
I’m Just a Patsy
On last week’s episode of ’24’, Margot’s witless son-in-law Naveed tried to escape with her daughter Simone only to find out that blood is thicker than marriage. So instead of getting out of the terrorist compound alive, to ensure Naveed would pilot the drones once they finished hacking them, Margot lopped off her own daughter’s pinky finger to force Naveed to play ball.
So this week, Naveed is getting the drones ready for takeover when they notice the entire army of planes are redirecting course, which clues Margot into the fact that the Americans known what they’re planning. Acting as quickly as possible, Margot orders Naveed to punch in the override codes to snag as many drones as possible and in the rush he’s able to grab six of them.
Margot releases a video to the world denouncing President Heller’s drone program while revealing a strike that took place a few years ago that was aimed at taking out her husband but in the process also killed 23 children as well. Now she wants payback and the only way to stop her from using the six drones from killing a whole lot of British citizens is for Heller to turn himself over to her in three hours or the strikes will begin.
Heller of course has no clue that the drone strike killed a bunch of children and it’s Mark that informs him that this all happened while they were drumming up support for the program in the first place. Children and civilians dying hitting the headlines would take away from the real mission, which was killing a known terrorist, so Mark didn’t bother to tell him about it. The Presidents on 24 have a real bad habit of employing some seriously questionable employees.
The video goes out across the internet and is also uploaded to the CIA’s private servers where they’re analysts begin decoding it immediately for any clues. It doesn’t take Jordan (the lapdog who constantly pants at Kate’s feet) long to find a hidden IP address in the video, which gives away the terrorist’s location. He says he’s either incredibly good or incredibly lucky — I’m betting he’s incredibly the mole that always seems to pop up on ’24’ but we’ll see how that plays out.
Navarro decides to lead the team personally to go capture or kill Al-Harazi and her terrorist crew. Nothing could possibly go wrong with that idea, right?
Jack’s Plan of Attack
Jack finally comes face to face with President Heller, who now knows that the hero of the day was right all along. When will these people seriously learn to listen to the man?!?
Jack has one last play that he thinks may help in locating Margot and her cohorts through an arms dealer they’ve used for many years. Jack wants permission to go back into the field to get to him, takedown the bad guy and then he’ll turn himself back over to the American authorities. Heller won’t go for it because Jack is already a wanted man but if the Russians get wind of his association with American forces, he’ll have an even bigger problem on his hands than what he’s currently dealing with in London.
Jack’s disappointment fades quickly when the love of his life, Audrey walks through the door and they catch eyes and immediately sparks fly. The last time Jack saw Audrey she was staring at a wall not aware of anything going on around her and stuck as a mind lost in her own body. The moment these two lock onto each other, they collide and nearly kiss and the emotion of the situation washes over both of them. Jack asks if Audrey is married, if she is happy. At this point we can pretty much just assume Mark (her actual husband) is collateral damage and he’s got not shot against the gravitational pull that is Jack Bauer.
Jack doesn’t want to hurt Audrey again so she leaves, but it’s clear we’ve got a love connection folks. Cue the music.
Mission Improbable
While the CIA closed in on the supposed terrorist compound, Margot and her son Ian confront Naveed with what he did to lure the authorities onto their location. Sure enough, Naveed removed a security wall when they were about to send out the demand video so the CIA could uncover their location. Ian caught it in time and sent the CIA on a wild goose chase while they continued their plans at the real home base.
While Naveed was busy being a moron, Ian figured out how to pilot the drones himself and he takes over at the control while one of Margot’s goons beats up her son-in-law.
At the wrong location, Navarro and his team storm into the building as if they’re all wearing red uniforms out of Star Trek. Navarro should have done his studying — if you’re a man in charge of a major organization, CIA, CTU, etc, and Jack Bauer shows up, get the hell out of there because you’ll be dead soon.
Thankfully, Kate was also on the case and she sent the video decoded by Jordan over to Chloe to have a look at and she figures out right away that a security wall was taken down in the video, which was an obvious ruse to send the CIA into a death trap. Kate calls Navarro quickly and warns him to get out of the building.
At the same time, Ian has repositioned a drone to their location and fires off two missiles and the entire compound goes up in flames. It appears by first look after the explosion that Navarro survived (shocking enough) but a whole bunch of other agents are dead.
Meanwhile back at terrorist central, Margot puts a gun to Naveed’s head and tells him that he royally screwed up trying to blow their plans. In the course of the five hours we’ve been here so far, he’s refused to pilot the drones, forged an escape with his wife/Margot’s daughter, slipped in a code to a video sent to the CIA so they could find them, and fabricated information that would exonerate Simone if they were all captured. Of course Margot figured out all of his plans so I’m back to calling Naveed a moron.
Naveed pleads for his wife and Simone appears, but obviously doesn’t seem too distraught that her husband is about to get a bullet in the head. She gives him one final stone cold stare, and Margot fires the gun and Naveed is no more. Fade to black.
On the next 24 guess who is back in the field and on a mission to find an arms dealer to track down Margot?!? If you said anyone other than Jack Bauer you definitely do not get to play the CTU at home game.
