Star Wars Episode VIII has added two heavy hitters to the cast with Benicio Del Toro and Laura Dern joining the upcoming sequel...
Benicio Del Toro — best known for roles in The Usual Suspects, Traffic, and 21 Grams — has officially joined the cast of Star Wars Episode VIII after months of rumors that he was going to be part of the upcoming sequel.
His casting was finally confirmed on Monday by Lucasfilm along with a note about the start of production on the new movie.
There is no official word on who Del Toro will be playing but all signs point to the Academy Award winner portraying one of the main villains in the upcoming movie that’s due out on December 15, 2017.
Also joining the cast is Laura Dern — who is best known for her role in Jurassic Park as well as Wild — will also play a part in Star Wars Episode VIII.
One final casting note, newcomer Kelly Marie Tran has also joined the film. Tran is a relative unknown who graduated from UCLA before doing some improv after college. Star Wars Episode VIII will be the biggest film role of her young career although her part in the movie has still not been confirmed.
Star Wars Episode VIII is in production in England currently.
